hoik 415 Posted June 11, 2012 This item could take many forms but would have the same overiding priciples:1. It is equiped in the gun slot2. It must emit sound that (for realisms sake) would not disturb zombies but be notable to humans. That is the basic premis. For arguments sake, say I find a Duck Caller. Later in my travels I come across a band of players unawares - I can go running down the hill (bad idea) try and reach them on chats (could work), or I could let out two or three distincive calls on the whistle. This will (hopefully) alert them of your persence, you can then gauge their response and, if you decide to, then go walking down the hill - the duck caller in hand replacing your gun. This is a very unagressive (some may say naive) manner to introduce yourself.I know this is a bit convoluted but could lead to some intresting items in the game (a harmonica?) as well as secret codes between gangs (tell friend from foe). I think it could be interesting.
scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted June 11, 2012 I like the idea of a duck call, or something that mimics animal sounds. (as long as it mimics animal sounds that are in the game and they put in place audio for those animals as well)
caspar 17 Posted June 11, 2012 ... just in Case, why not using Ingame Voip? Isn't it much more funnier to go into a area and 'shout' into the Mic, you are coming in peace? Sure, i know a lot ppl which aren't playing the game with a headset/mic, so for those this could be an option. But to be honest, a mic doesnt cost so much money as someone couldn't afford it (if he has already a pc which can run ArmA2 with enough FPS to play fluently). And if you still like to have a duck or harmonica, you can still use it by using InGame Voip :) I would really like to sit on a fire, with some ppl, where someone is playing a harmonica :)Try to use the 'Features' the game gives us already instead of creating more and more stuff which will lead the Dev's to lose their focus on the real problems of the current alpha Edition. Deuzerre 64 Posted June 11, 2012 i likeeeeSame.I like the "clickclick clickclick" you see in "the longest day" ww2 film. The noise is quite easy to recognise, but not too loud.
pogoman979 4 Posted June 11, 2012 ... just in Case' date=' why not using Ingame Voip? Isn't it much more funnier to go into a area and 'shout' into the Mic, you are coming in peace? [/quote']unfortunately with voip the range wouldn't be as great,at least for direct chat as it is designed for talking to someone next to you, not shouting. i.e. if you shout into your mic it's going to travel the same distance ingame as if you whispered something. zeeb 6 Posted June 11, 2012 @Caspar: I do not know how the VOIP works, but if I'm able to talk in the mic and im like 10KM away from someone, and they hear it, that is just the complete opposite of realism.@OT: Signed +
mines_skyline 4 Posted June 11, 2012 ^ that, sir, is because u use side or global chat, which is highly looked down upon in DayZ. Please use direct comms.

Also...i don't know the first thing about playing a harmonica in real life... :(
caspar 17 Posted June 11, 2012 @pogomanDirect Communication VoiP is going up to 80m, also you will be heard really silent if you are far away from the reciever, and getting louder if you getting nearer. Try it yourself, its really cool and feels fantastic realistic.@DemnishYou should not use VoiP in Globalchat, only in Direct Chat. As soon as its possible i will deactivate VoiP in Global/Sidechat so ppl can only communicate directly.@HoikSure, would be great, but think about it this way. What is more important, duck sounds made by an item - or stable, reliable server engine? ^^ you can't have both at once, so at my side i would like to have the 2nd first :) after that we can speak about the first.
