But this wouldn't do anything to help the game. Right now Dayz is mostly very paranoid people with the shoot first philosophy if you want to stop that you have to add a reason for people to group up because right now the only reason is the companionship and most people that are gamers don't care about that. I understand the idea of an I.A. patrol but in reality about 80% of the As50s are spawned in by hackers so if they fixed hacking completely and reset everyones character there would be a lot less killing going on by snipers since those high powered guns would be extremely hard to find again. Point is these are A.I. configurations you can't talk to them trade with them reason with them and they won't shoot you randomly, people like the unpredictability of humans not knowing if they guy you just picked up is going to shoot you in the back.

Not exactly true. Depends on how well you can program. (Which, judging by the bugs currently in Day Z, is done by first year programming students)

Besides. Again. It's not the point of these AI groups. You can't interact or trade with zombies either, so according to your philosophy, we might as well get rid of those too.

I had to put my first post in just to say this. The close-mindedness of the people posting on here is through the roof! Follow the crowd sheep! Anyways, the OP makes various good points as to why AI would be a good idea, and it's funny that they auctually added AI, and look at all these negative trolling replies. Very few gave auctual constructive criticism. Hank_scorpio, I'm sorry, I usually don't stoop down like this, but you're an idiot! even if you had proper grammar I could care less, but you just say "You fail" and you haven't even seen it in action,  and I doubt you gave any of this man's points ANY thought.. No you didn't stutter idiot, you don't run anything, you are not special, you are just like everyone else! Yet he's the asshole for pointing out your wrongs, when you attacked first. ANYWAYS, I think the OP is a great thinker and I back his idea for AI, especailly for a beginner server? It would help them get more experience that is a little, well just a little, like playing with other players. As a beginner you rarely see other players, and your combat with zombies around is very different from regular arma, that being said, it would help noobs get experience that would take a very long time to otherwise aquire.

 

This subject is very touchy, and extremely opinion based. I think it should be up to the players (which of course it is now) whether or not they play with non-zombie AI.

PS: Sorry for the gravedigging, I just got upset when I saw everyone shooting this guy down. Great concept. You will not offend me by deleting my post and I won't bump an old post up again.

Thank you for your input, but I don't think you fully understand the idea. I'm not proposing to program these AI to attack anyone, just to patrol at random.

Instead of diminishing human emotions, the unknown whether that other survivor is a player or not could significantly make you more paranoid. Are they a threat? Are they just friendlies passing by? Can I use this group to perhaps enhance my fighting capability against other human players and or zombies? I think it would infact open up a world of additional options and events without impeding too much on the gameplay so far. Even with these groups, encountering them would be highly irregullar, and they would rarely wander into town (If there are players around, they'd be quickly surrounded and killed by zombies, giving the players in the area a new variable to contend with in their fight amongst themselves, again increasing human emotions)

If you really think about it, a correct implimentation and balance could give the gameplay a whole new dimension. Not impede on it. That you can't interact with them the way you would with humans is irrelivant, because that is not their purpose. Just like zombies, they are more like a 'prop' or a source of equipment/weapon/ammo, not a significant threat, nowhere near the level of a human player.

But what is their reason to patrolling, or even existing, this is supposed to be the end of the world where only a handful of survivors are left in from of the infected hordes. What do they add that the current zombies, players and looting system doesn't add already. We already have human survivors, why would we need NPC ones?
