John Spectre 32 Posted September 2, 2012 At the end of the day, all of this, all these discussions on this forum, and others are just idea pools that the devs can draw from. I see a lot of 'old school' DayZ players from the glory days of the game, before it got to the more 'mainstream' level its at now who don't like where its going. It was cool at the beginning when everyone was trying to figure out how to stay alive, who and what was out there. However, now its got to change and evolve, it has a massive player base, and it will just keep growing. Which means the game has to grow and adapt to the new player base. Its going to be different from the the old DayZ you all played, I can almost garauntee that. I say just have faith that Rocket will stay true to his vision, and throw out as many ideas as possible. I fully agree with a skill system, a point buy in system for game start, as well as a points over time (somehow a factor of how long you've survived, and what you have done/acheieved) The skills and attributes gained should be noticeable, but should not directly replace player knowledge, skill, patience etc..Skills are a necessary addition to this game, as permadeath will eventually lose a lot of its impact as the economy starts to even out, more goods are crafted and looted etc... This game will definately evolve from where it is now. I agree with the OPs concept here, if not the specifics of its form and execution.
sheriffhd 61 Posted September 2, 2012 Nope. The game doesnt need a skill/perk system. As for spawning, what would be nice is the choice to join a players "gang/posse" which would give you your own chat channel and maybe a spawn opition that spawns you near team mates (no closer than a 2 sq km radius) cant make it too easy for people. although i rather the idea of spawning ont he coast and having to work towards where friendlsy are, as if you were to die and then respawn it would make the last death kinda hopeless as you could spawn and then grab your stuff back. Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted September 2, 2012 I would be okay for a point buy characteristic system because it adds variety between players, but not a "point" system like you would think:In typical rpgs you get things like, strength, dexterity, constitution, agility. In my system you would have to pick which is your best, and then go on til your worst.for example:STR 4DEX 3CON 2AGI 1you wouldn't be able to build an average character, with this system you would always have one "top" ability, and one really shitty, and have to deal with it. omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted September 2, 2012 DayZ isn't an RPG. In real life, you don't have to kill zombies to level up. You just kill zombies. If you want to learn a new "skill" or whatever, then you teach it to yourself. Or find someone to teach you. You don't literally go and buy knowledge. How many fucking times are people going to suggest that DayZ should be an RPG?! IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN

I'm only talking about physical abilities, we are not equal we are all different, some are fast, some are slow, some are though and some are wimps. Life doesn't make everyone equal. Life doesn't make everyone equal.Fair, but the character base traits should be randomized. You shouldn't be able to choose. If you could, then everyone would pick "Gun master" or "Marksman". No leveling up or xp or anything. You have base traits that cannot be altered. You can still learn new things, though. This is the most ideal idea of an RPG element in DayZ. Anything more would feel like a different game.
Marshmallow (DayZ) 33 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) dayz isnt a skill/class game its survival not perksI agree. I don't think this is a game where classes and skills fit in. Everyone is created equal and your abilities are only limited by your mouse, keyboard, and brains and DayZ isn't a game where your character grows over time. You're bound to be killed, multiple times, and when you are killed it's permanent. That's what makes this game so thrilling for many of us because the stakes are high.Let me also add that DayZ is style of gameplay that hasn't been seen for ages, so the last thing many of us want to see is the game to follow the same boring track a thousand other games have gone. The game is immensely simple, yet equally complex, and that's interesting. Kind of like Minecraft. Edited September 2, 2012 by Marshmallow

Quazil 3 Posted September 4, 2012 If you are going to effectively add classes (a'la TM2) then you need a fast-paced game to go with it.Otherwise you end up with EQ/WoW gameplay. It's a realism-destroying game mechanic.i.e. Horrible idea, sorry.
xximrtwoixx 104 Posted September 4, 2012 WTF is wrong with people, this has nothing to do with skills, perks, attributes etc. Point buy is mechanic that allows people to customize their character/experiance by purchasing things that have weighted values from a limited pool. This could be gear like a bandage, pain killers, morphine, bullets, back packs, etc. It could be skins/clothes, whatever. Its about giving the player the ability to sacrifice certain things because they attribute more value to others, its about tailoring your experaince the way you see fit. IMO this fits into DayZ because it's your story, this simply gives you the ability to give your character some back story. Because points are limited no one is able to generate a significant advantage, it simply makes you realize as a player from the begnining that everything has an advantage/disadvantage and its up to you to make these tough choices that your characters survival will depend on.If you want to remark on what is or isn't included fine, but this is about the mechanic not what is included. Other mechanics could be used to accomplish these same things, classes, open spawn locations, etc. I want people to be able to choose, and those choices to have a price.
