Replace "inventory slots" with cubic centimeters and weight

Recommended Posts

I think the amount of space some items takes up is ridiculous as the system is now. For instance, the patrol pack can obviously hold more than 8 cans of coke in real life.

My solution is this: Instead of having "inventory slots" like there are now, replace them with the amount of cubic centimeters an object takes up. STANAG mags for example take up about 270cc, so a backpack that holds 27,000cc (1 cubic ft) could hold 100 of them. However, STANAG mags also weigh .5kg each so a backpack full of them would weigh 50kg, which is quite heavy obviously. A weight limit may be necessary for this system to work, which may be seen as either a pro or a con depending on the person.

Anyone else like this idea?

this is not going to change in the mod, however they already said that in the standalone the inventory will be changed, this is a cool idea, I would like to see it implemented

I like the idea, but I think it would be difficult to implement.

Like your idea but I think numbers need to be buffed up because items have dead space when stored in containers because they don't fit perfectly inside them. Other than that I agree that volume and weight/encumbrance need to be added to the inventory system. I and I'm sure others have posted similar ideas.

The measurements of the STANAG mag I posted were buffed slightly and taken from an airsoft one I had lying around. I added some width to make up for the curve and some length because the top and bottom aren't parallel.
