Private server use / hacker on UK237

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Bought ArmaII for Dayz a week ago and must say I love it. I know many people suggested waiting for the stand-alone but it was the only opportunity where my brother and myself both had free time, and it was a good choice. The general fear and joy emotions when surviving and raiding are excellent, though it does seem to be shoot on site regardless of if you try and talk to the other person...

Anyway, we were playing for about 6 hours or so on-and-off on UK237. We had just raided the NW airfield and were heading for camp when a hacker killed everyone on the server (~8:45pm GMT, 26/08/12, don't know who it was though someone on chat yelled that it was "Bobby" *shrugs*). I know a lot of people come on here to complain about such things, but I just want to find a way around it. I've read on the forums I should join a private server, I can see a few private servers, but how does one join these? Is it better to set one up myself (though I would of course prefer to play with others)? I would have to use a UK server as my brother's (UK) connection is pretty poor, and my (US) connection is rather decent. Are player's items/locations on these servers persistent only to those servers, or are they like the public servers where items you are carrying cross-over?

Thanks for any help,

Andrew

what is meant by 'private' is more likely to be understood as 'private hive', as opposed to the public hive. The hive is the central server that carries your 'character's' location data and inventory, None of which would apply on a private hive, since it's a separate entity. I hope that it made sense to you :)

Thanks. So is that at all related to the 'locked' servers, which I had assumed were the private servers? Is there a listing of such servers anywhere where one could feasibly ask the owner for access? I'd set up my own but noone would join :P Again, just trying to escape the hackers by joining servers where people have to register / ask permission to join first...

public servers are prohibited from being passworded.

don't know how to get in contact with a private community, but I would assume there'd be people on these forums, or a thread on that subject, somewhere?

Cheers Nozzy (from the brother in the UK), I was thinking of hosting a private Hive on my spare pc. I would label it "hackfree" or something like that and use password protection to prevent people from joining who aren't authorised.

Does anyone know what kind of admin privileges there are for a host (e.g. Account ban, kick etc.) and can the host grant admin rights to other admins? There would need to be a vetting process for new players. Is this the kind of server people would be interested in joining?

Hi Bobby, I am the server admin for UK237.

I think you may have contacted me before.

Server admins on DayZ don't get as many privileges as on other games.

There are certain rules you are asked to follow.

You are able to kick/ ban/ banip / global message / private message / server restarts. The normal stuff really. (here is the wiki page for the Rcon tool - http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BattlEye )

Due to the nature of the game, if you want a public server and want to keep it "white listed" there are certain rules you have to follow which can be found on the forums.

If you are wanting to ban someone for hacking, you are probably best to get some evidence together in case they start crying on the forums.

Unfortunately your word alone doesn't seem to cut it.

For private servers, I am pretty sure you can do as you please as they are disconnected from the Hive.

I don't know much about private servers, but I am sure somebody can assist.

Bobby / MrHappy - I believe I have found the hacker in question after getting some info from Bobby. Sorry this guy ruined your day. BattleEye has gotten better recently at kicking hackers, however as always it is not perfect. If you happen to play again on UK237 and see somebody hacking, please can you let me know. Providing player names / date / time / what happened. Also / screenshots / videos would help too.

Also, in case you haven't noticed before, The stats on the server are tracked on GameTrackers.com with a leaderboard which is pretty cool for repeat visitors :)

Thanks
