Local zombie spawn chance based on weapon

Druen - I agree that the realism point is a negative, however I feel that the additional balance this change would bring outweighs this negative. Flybynight1 - That is exactly the point which I consider a positive. An AS50 is an ideal weapon for killing players, not zombies, and the majority of people who carry sniper rifles are using it for that purpose. It thus makes the game for difficult for people going around equipped for killing players, relative to those looking to fight zombies.
  2. I would (possibly) like to see a chance for zombies to spawn around players that have good weapons. The general idea is to add this as a (minor) part of game balance, and make sure zombies remain a part of the game at all stages of play. Currently players can log on to an empty server, loot uber weapons, and prey on people gaming in full servers with negligible weapons without any repercussions. Also, people with semi-decent weapons have it pretty easy full stop - the zombie aspect of the game is basically not part of the game any more. One would roll every second for a chance to have a zombie (or pack of zombies for the best guns) spawn near you. An unarmed player would have zero chance, a player with a Makarov would on average maybe spawn one zombie every 20 minutes, an Mp5 maybe 2-3 zombie spawns every ten minutes, an AS50 4-5 (more aggressive?) zombies every 5 minutes on average. It actually makes things much more difficult for sniper-campers as they might be far from a building to slow zombies down, and have a gun not really suited for taking on hordes. One would have to take into account guns that are in the backback also, as otherwise one could simply put a gun in a backpack to avoid this change having any effect. Pros: Balance (1) - players with better guns will have a harder time in pvp, as if they have a greater chance of being attacked by zombies mid-fight. Balance (2) - if you see a zombie in the wilderness, you will know it is probably near a player with good guns. Zombies a part of the game for players at every level. Cons: Realism (1) - unless you think zombies like the smell of an AS50. Realism (2) - players with good guns will be easily spotted simply by looking for zombies - nerfs hiding in the trees a bit. Travel - if you are simply moving from a to b, it might be a nuisance (though maybe this encourages only unarmed travel... Difficulty to implement (?) - If zombies currently only spawn at specific points, maybe they cannot be easily made to spawn at random in the wilderness. Sorry if this is already posted, I could not find it in a search.

    Private hive section in forum

Thanks for the support! But if people suspect this they could post about that on the forum in the topic of that hive. That way if people are abusing their admin rights one could at least warn others on the topic (and the admins can of course respond!)...I'm not saying it is perfect, but I think it would be easier to have some sort of consolidated list people could refer to. At the moment it is both difficult to match private hives with players, and also to look for possible private hive abuse by admins.

    Private hive section in forum

I'd like to see a "Private Hive" section added to Dayz (server sub-forum). I think it would be useful for people currently looking for private hives (like myself) to avoid hackers. Judging by comments at (12:30): it seems that hosting private servers is not against the devs wishes. I believe a separate sub-forum would be an appropriate way for people to advertise / search for private servers, Currently they are spread about on the off-topic making it harder to locate. I would suggest that there should be a guidelines in sticky post which would state that new server posts contain all of: 1) Server (Country) Location 2) Mod/ArmaII Version info 3) Server options (3rd person etc) 4) Contact member (person to pm) 5) If the server is locked. 6) Differences from the main version of the mod (if any) I believe this would allow people to experiment more easily and see what options are available on private hives, simply because all of these options would be in one area of the forum. Sorry to post this in the Dayz suggestions, but I could not find a 'forum suggestions' section.

Private server use / hacker on UK237

Thanks. So is that at all related to the 'locked' servers, which I had assumed were the private servers? Is there a listing of such servers anywhere where one could feasibly ask the owner for access? I'd set up my own but noone would join :P Again, just trying to escape the hackers by joining servers where people have to register / ask permission to join first...
  8. Hi all, Bought ArmaII for Dayz a week ago and must say I love it. I know many people suggested waiting for the stand-alone but it was the only opportunity where my brother and myself both had free time, and it was a good choice. The general fear and joy emotions when surviving and raiding are excellent, though it does seem to be shoot on site regardless of if you try and talk to the other person... Anyway, we were playing for about 6 hours or so on-and-off on UK237. We had just raided the NW airfield and were heading for camp when a hacker killed everyone on the server (~8:45pm GMT, 26/08/12, don't know who it was though someone on chat yelled that it was "Bobby" *shrugs*). I know a lot of people come on here to complain about such things, but I just want to find a way around it. I've read on the forums I should join a private server, I can see a few private servers, but how does one join these? Is it better to set one up myself (though I would of course prefer to play with others)? I would have to use a UK server as my brother's (UK) connection is pretty poor, and my (US) connection is rather decent. Are player's items/locations on these servers persistent only to those servers, or are they like the public servers where items you are carrying cross-over? Thanks for any help, Andrew
