Slickback (DayZ) 21 Posted August 25, 2012 I have recently entered into PvP after about a week of playing this game....and it's hard. My plan was to go to the airstrip and pick up some weapons and head straight into Elektro and start looking for people to kill; however, it is really hard. I know that sounds silly, but I am just reverting back into my old habit of gathering weapons and hoarding them, while trying to avoid combat. Every time I hear a gunshot around me I look around a bit and if I don't find the player within a few minutes I just log :( I really think I am missing a huge portion of this game by not engaging in PvP any help involving my fears of PvP would be extremely appreciated.

DrunkPunk 159 Posted August 25, 2012 Just spend some time in cherno on a hihg pop server with some low end guns, like ak-74 kobras or a lee enfield. This way you will have nothing to lose. You'll encounter a lot of pvp, but you'll also hopefully get over that fear.Really the best thing to do is get comfortable with the thought of death and starting over again. It's going to happen, whether you like it or not, one way or another. And exposing yourself to more pvp is the only way to develop that level head required for those intense moments. So just develop a quick shoreline path to getting a little bit of gear and throw yourself into it. You'll die a lot, but you'll learn how to properly move through hot zones and how to move in the process. Also, don't ever alt+f4. Accept death. Nothing is more loathed in this game (except maybe hackers) than some poor sport who can't handle something as common as death.
TheMedic 58 Posted August 25, 2012 Rule #1 of Chernarus: don't get attached. The more I realized "it's just a game" the more I accepted taking very stupid risks, quit QQing about being killied, and just started enjoying it for what it is.
thomas-tk@live.dk 39 Posted August 25, 2012 Even though you wanna try to engage in PvP combat, I strongly recommend that you dont head to Electro or Cherno to find action. Leave these places for the fresh spawn and the campers, unless you wanna attack the snipers. To shoot unarmed people is just.... phatetic. Rather you should go to Stary or NWAF and hope for some players who can put up a fight. dont just do moving target practice.

terex 322 Posted August 25, 2012 Being scared is good, makes the PvP more intense. Run around the popular areas knowing that you will die at one point but have some fun trying to kill people. Elektro and Chern are great for that.

It's pretty easy to see who is armed and who isn't.Also, to the OP, don't go to the NWA or Stary until you get some experience. You'll just be taken down by sniper after sniper, or large groups making runs. Save those places for when you get more experience behind your belt, because the NWA especially is one hell of a long walk just to die.
Slickback (DayZ) 21 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) Hmmm I really am grateful for the advice. But, I have one person telling me to go to Elektro and Chern for PvP, while the other person says Stary or NWAF. I know both areas are very popular for PvP combat, but considering I am still new to this game with a decent grasp on this game, which area would be best go to? NWAF+Stary or Chern+ Elektro?Edit #1: Oh very nice post Drunkpunk. While I was typing this question you had posted in my forum so...I guess you answered it. Anyways, I will take your advice and try Cherno on a High Pop server and see where it takes me. If anyone else has any input feel free to speak up :) Edited August 25, 2012 by Newschooler
nathiesk 186 Posted August 25, 2012 So I was riding a motorcycle on a server that was pretty much empty, and suddenly there's this satchel charge in the road, and then *boom*, and a guy in a ghillie comes looting me while I'm unconscious lol.

If anyone else has any input feel free to speak up :)no probs man, i just know my own experiences and what has helped me grow in pvp. if i had more time, i'd offer to roll with you, because having a second person is incredibly helpful in keeping aware of your surroundings, but naturally not required. If you need any more basic advice, shoot me a PM and I can part with some of my knowledge.Edit: Also, stay away from elektro. Too many snipers on the hills there. Cherno is more ideal, since there are a lot more tall buildings and hills.... or so I've found, anyway. johan (DayZ) 21 Posted August 25, 2012 I'd go to cherno or elektro early on. Up north there's more advanced squads of people who are working together. In cherno you'll find solo paranoid survivors with lee's or pistols who are always ready for a fight, albeit they're usually not organized. Go into a 60 man server, go to the heavily populated servers, fire one magazine into the air and wait. Usually what I do when I haven't PvP:d in a long while (like when I started Day z after taking a year EVE break) I just started doing stupid things like running around in the open in cherno, shooting at everything and then trying to kill whoever came to kill me, etc, or shrugging when I died to a sniper. Just repeat this over and over again until death means nothing.
Shard (DayZ) 24 Posted August 25, 2012 Play with friends or in a group, I play in a group of 3-4, and PVP is completely un-fightening. Even after your not as intimdated at all.

Thats why I dident want him to go there, if he turned into one of them. Though if he plans to shoot the armed bastards, then its fine by me. Would just hate to see him using fresh spawns as moving target practice. But yes, he can get some good experience with PvP if he choose the right opponents. c4mpfire 2 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) I think starting out just hit the south airfield and tree stands by the road grab a primary and run around that area you'll usually run into players and just try different things like how to sneak up on people or engage em from range and teach yourself how to pvp before hitting the main pk spots cause if u try to hit cherno, stary .. etc you'll just get dome capped with a 50 Cal and not know how to respond. Start small and work your way up by that's just my opinion :) Edited August 25, 2012 by c4mpfire
TheMedic 58 Posted August 26, 2012 Start small and work your way up by that's just my opinion :)Hu-YUP!! Start with a raid on Prigorodky if possible; three fairly valued farm/barn buildings that should yied up a nice combo of weapons and food/drink for the new player with options for other locations after that. Mogilevka to the north, a smaller less raided city with some valuable buildings, or make the daring treks east to Cherno or west to Elektro.
