Poor admins are ruining DayZ

Recommended Posts

Restart. Your. Fucking. Servers.

Arma 2 was not designed to run servers with this load level for extended periods of time.

In regular arma things are cleared, new rounds start and everything is dandy.

In DayZ, shit STAYS.

Ever notice, when you join a server that's restarted in the last 3 hours it's really fucking fast to create character then load in?

Whereas if you join one that's been up for 10 hours, even if it has like 5 players, it's SLOW AS FUCK.

3 - 4 hours should be the absolute MAXIMUM time a server runs before restarting.

What's the fucking problem anyway? You can automate it.

This shouldn't even be a guideline, this should be a mandatory fucking RULE that the Devteam gives admins, or they get blacklisted.

RYFS, bitches.

Ok pal pay for a server out of your own pocket and show them admins how it's done.

Get out of this thread, chump change.

If there's as simple of a solution to latency issues and FPS drops as restarting the server more often (that only takes like 5 minutes), then there is no valid reason not to do it. I too have noticed that servers that restart every 4-5 hours are by far the fastest, and offer smoothest FPS, and I don't even play on the slower servers anymore.

On the contrary, servers that reboot only after 12 hours or so are VERY slow on their other half no matter what specifications/settings are you running, and sometimes it gets really unenjoyable to play on them. I think it's a good idea to at least advise administrators that they should be restarting their servers more often than 12 hours, as some might not even know why people prefer other servers, and this could just be one of the main reasons.

I am the owner of a server. There are two sides to this. I often restart the server, but since 1.7.2.5 i am often reluctant because all the vehicles will move to there previous position. Very annoying..

The two sides I'm seeing is: Admin wants to keep his/her vehicles VS. the server running up at optimal. Did you read the part about admins ruining the game?

What does that mean?

It means your opinion has become invalid in this thread, so if you could please see yourself out. I know server hosts give admins the option to automate the restarts, and there really shouldn't be any discussion about as to whether or not restarting frequently versus restarting twice a day makes an impact on the server; it does, dummy.

Self centered much?

I have many regulars on my server, who own there own camps and vehicles. So no, its not only for my own motorcycle. I wish to keep the regulars in my server, because it's fun to have ongoing battles between groups.

Not just admin vehicles, we have mutiple groups on our server and none of us like losing them every goddamn time we restart. Pretty sure the randoms who I dont speak to hate it too.

How about blaming the hackers, the bugs and the general morons and dicks who play this game before blaming the admins?

The people who pay THEIR money so YOU can play for free.

Sure, some abuse their powers, but thats the same in every game, for the most part I think the admins do their best within a rather limited and completely stupid set of rules.

But isn't the fight for vehicles in their proper spot an ongoing battle between groups? And wouldn't that then be slightly more fair for the 1,000,000 other people that could potentially frequent your server?

I restart my server twice a day.

I also just shut it down cause I'm tired of the constant "hacker" based mass disruptions I've been dealing with all night long.

I might turn it back on in a day or two, once the summer break is over and the kids go back to school.

I only restart my server every 24-48 hours and it's significantly faster than any other server I've joined prior to setting my own server up. There's something to be said for setting the machine up on a proper box. I feel like the majority of the poorly performing DayZ servers are the $30/month 'game server' shared hosting style plans. Get a proper unmanaged server and set everything up yourself from the ground up and you'll have a much better time.

I do plan to restart the server routinely every 24 hours once vehicle saving is resolved in 1.7.3. As has already been stated, it's frustrating for EVERYONE on the server to spend the time finding/repairing a vehicle if it's going to just poof in a few hours.

There are only two reasons I've noticed that necessitate the need for server restarts.

[1] Preventing popular cities from degrading into loot piles of tin cans/whiskey bottles (players are understandably lazy and won't clear loot piles on their own to get respawns)

[2] Clearing player corpses.

Those two reasons are the only reasons I'll be going to 24-hour scheduled restarts once vehicle saving is fixed. If loot decayed/respawned on its own and player corpses decayed on their own, I'd see no reason to restart my server.

Play on some proper boxes instead of budget shared hosting game servers.

If you feel you've got it figured out, you're welcome to exclusively play on servers that restart at frequent intervals or otherwise start your own server and restart it as often as you like. I've purchased my own server so that I can maintain it as I see fit (within the rules set forth for us server admins).

This is true, people aren't hosting on the right rigs to start with.

But regardless of their hosting plan, a restart always helps.

The vehicles thing, well that's just too bad.

Doesn't really matter if you restart every 4 hours or every 24 hours, people going to lose their vehicles anyway.

Perhaps stick in a server message when people join about it, until it's fixed.

RYFS admins.
