LaurenDanger 100 Posted August 25, 2012 Because the shambling horde decided to rip my character apart, I was reduced to a feeble spawn a few days ago. Rare to have zombies feast on my flesh, but when one of them gets in a super hit, there's no escape I suppose.I decided to take the bit of time I do get here and there for playing DayZ and try running around on servers that are dark. Night time play. No night vision, and until today, no map. Gamma is not turned up all the way, but with a map I can manage now. Running from zombies means I get stuck on a lot of fences but that's okay, I survived another night. But still no matches or tents or primary weapons.Does anyone else try and play during a server's night without using NVG? Do you explore anywhere in particular? I have to say this seems to be safer than risking snipers when there's light.
Noquisi 25 Posted August 25, 2012 Does anyone else try and play during a server's night without using NVG? Do you explore anywhere in particular? I have to say this seems to be safer than risking snipers when there's light.Yes, actually. I think it's fun to play at night. I wouldn't say it's safer player wise; but zombies having to locate you by sound makes it easier to escape them. Hell, when moonlit or on days the moon is out in full, the servers are just as full as they are during the day.Over all it has it's advantages and disadvantages~That reminds me, some players actually locate and find their way around using the stars. They must hate clouds then.
Ipurgepeople 106 Posted August 25, 2012 I prefer night servers, even without NVGs.If the server has a moon, then playing at night is actually quite a pleasant experience. If the server doesn't have a moon, staying away from the woods as much as possible is absolutely crucial, because with no moon, the woods are just a pitch black mass all around you.As per where I like to explore... pretty much anywhere. Especially on low-pop servers I like to go on a loot-cycle in cherno of church->store->firehouse->hospital->apartments rinse and repeat until I find what I'm looking for (usually ammo or food). I've also had some pleasant experiences at the airfields whilst stumbling around in the dark. If you have a silenced weapon, playing at night and accidentally aggroing a zed isn't a big deal, just pop it and move on. If you don't have a silenced wep, it can be a little more difficult, but you can pull it off with a bit of careful consideration. My current goal is to visit every town on the map, to which I'm almost complete, just need to hit a few more up north, and I'll have visited every town on the map at nighttime... In order to do that, however, I need to not get spawned on the damn coast every time I log out. >:(
thealbinohippo 1 Posted August 25, 2012 i find that when in electro at night there seems to be a lot better gear, just my luck i suppose, but i don't like running around in the dark when i can barely see any zombies
LockeDown 144 Posted August 25, 2012 I used to be all about night servers, but I've found myself coming back to the day servers craving friendly interaction in Cherno and Elektro.(ie: some part of my psyche wants to see me die.)
Ipurgepeople 106 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) If you're having zombie problems in elektro, you're doing it wrong. If you aggro, lure them into firehouse/church/school or really any building with multiple entrances (even those tiny industrial sheds with 2 different doors work) once you're through there, start crouch walking (not RUNNING) away and you'll be good to go 90% of the time. If it didn't work, try another building, and if you've still got a couple following you, consider lining up a shot with a lighter background behind the zombie and take a shot (a road or a light-colored building work great, though my preference is inside a firehouse). adamtheheretic 106 Posted August 25, 2012 I used to play night server without NVG's, now I have them I still stick to night servers... Less zombie problems and generally a high tier weapons battle if PVP breaks out.
Ipurgepeople 106 Posted August 25, 2012 Yeah if I can get my hands on another pair of NVGs I'll still play on night servers (And my videos will be much easier to see!)
Fauji 8 Posted August 25, 2012 I love the night servers it scares me much more, saying that I enjoyed it more when you could crouch walk past zombies as it was scary as hell to bump into one in the pitch black. That said I visit Cherno only in the dark and of not highly populated I will go to top of clock tower and throw flares all around to help navigate around. When being chased in fields by zombies the worse thing is getting stuck on strange shaped trees or corner fences... You always seem to end up with a bleeder..

Luckily, so far when we've done this, we haven't had any players spawn in cherno to surprise us...
Fistofbrick 9 Posted August 25, 2012 i prefer night servers, honestly. maybe it's the masochistic part of my psyche, or that i'm able to actually avoid zeds, instead of them spotting me from miles away in broad daylight. day servers are good and all, but nothing beats a night server when you first spawn, to nab some decent gear imo

cfnz 15 Posted August 25, 2012 I play on night servers fairly regularly, preferrably early hours of the morning when there's enough light to see but still enough darkness for a level of concealment. Pitch black servers are an interesting experience especially when you are making a small amount of noise even if crawling and can hear zombies but can't see them. Stopping even now and then to scan around with your torch hoping there isn't someone watching you.

sostronk 334 Posted August 25, 2012 Usually I prefer night time. Turn your brightness up etc. You see almost as well as during the day, the Zombies have a harder time. Although I was in a server the other night that was too dark. I know the darkness was changed a little while back, not sure if settings can be changed server side. LaurenDanger 100 Posted August 25, 2012 I am glad that I am not alone! This is good. I have done Balota in the dark, when the artifacts can be ignored because hey, I am navigating my memory anyway. I found the broken down bus, but the nice weapons in board had no ammo! Still, it was fun, turning on the bus lights and hearing the horde stir up before I moved on.The panic factor certainly is more fun when the server is dark. It is keeping me interestd in the game. Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted August 25, 2012 i love playing at night without NVG's. even without a map i can just navigate with the stars, always end up where i need to be. I've never been killed at night, must be a good sign and creeping round the Zed's is much easier..Night stalking is my thing :D
mcBain_101 25 Posted August 25, 2012 playing at night adds a whole new experience in dayz. i love playing at night personally. i currently hve a g17 with the flashlight, totally great for navigating in the dark. although for obv reasons i dont use it all the time :D dont wait to attract attention. it amuses me zeds are oblivious to torchlight, even if you shine it right in there faces ^^
