FugalDangerman 0 Posted August 24, 2012 I tried searching for a list of weapons and how effective they are, but I couldn't quite find a topic. Plenty on particular weapons, but not all of them.So just wondering what's good weapon wise? Also, is there any good way to indicate you're friendly to others other then just saying it?And I've found I can make notes on my map. What else can I do? Can I remove these notes?More questions when I eventually think of them. And thanks for any help.

mark.merrill@hotmail.co.uk 43 Posted August 24, 2012 Check this for weapon comparison:http://dayzdb.com/database/weapon-comparisonThere's no real way of indicating to other players you are totally friendly. You just gotta hope and pray the person you are talking to is honest too...it's rare though.Just know whatever notes you put on the map everybody else can see too...be careful. You can remove them too.
4L4N 276 Posted August 24, 2012 Another good one for weapons and just about everything else in DayZ is http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=WeaponsAlso have a look through this thread for more cool links - http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/10051-index-of-helpful-threads/
FugalDangerman 0 Posted August 24, 2012 Went through the helpful links page when I first got here. But thanks anyway! And I figured as much for showing you're friendly. Oh well.Though I didn't know others could see it. That's rather irritating. <_> I kind of made a note where my tent was.How do I remove them?

You can do that for other people's notes too. I generally cause shenanigans by putting a whole bunch of stupid notes on the map once I'm in a server. I'm sure many others do too. FugalDangerman 0 Posted August 26, 2012 Thanks. Helpful to know. Guess I'll just make notes on a JPEG map instead.Sometimes when I swap guns I start firing despite not pressing the button to do so.Any idea why?
amaROenuZ 144 Posted August 26, 2012 There is one way to "signal" that you're friendly. The hero skin does overtly mark you as a medic/non player killer. That said, it's a pain to get, isn't always respected, and is no replacement to calling friendly over voice. And that's a bug with arma 2.
jurrasstoil (DayZ) 12 Posted August 26, 2012 (edited) For a more "in-depth" look at which weapons are good, you might want to check out .I think you can delete notes on the map by hovering over them with your mouse and then hitting delete on your keyboard. You can also place waypoints on your map that will show up ingame by holding shift and then leftclicking on the spot of the map you want to go to.As for identifying as friendly: announce you are friendly, that's all you can do really. It's probably best to stalk whoever you are dealing with first, then try to give out their exact position (preferably an exposed one) via direct comm to let them know you are friendly and add "if I wanted to shoot you, you'd be dead already".If you cross someone's way by accident and he is armed, chances are pretty high that a firefight will ensue. One of you will freak out and people who don't shoot in these situations are extremely rare. Edited August 26, 2012 by jurrasstoil
FugalDangerman 0 Posted August 27, 2012 Ah, I see. Thanks again.I'm having a new problem now. I got a hunting knife earlier, and managed to get some meat from a sheep I killed. But now when I kill an animal, it doesn't give me the option to get any meat.
hoorah (DayZ) 36 Posted August 27, 2012 The best way to show another player you are friendly is to point a lee enfield at them. That way they know you are trying to protect them from zombies.

I just slowly moved around the dead animal and eventually I would find the spot where I could get the meat.Could be either the server or just the same kinda thing with ladders and doors where you have to point it at the right spot. You have to aim at the right spot at the right angle from the right distance for almost everything. Stuff like gutting animals and picking up meat, looting/opening/picking up backpacks and looting/helping players are probably the most fiddly.
