Would you be mad if they were working on a separate game instead of a mod?

Did no one pay attention to the E3 rumors that have been posted here? They said that they are going to make a stand alone game before Arma III is out using the Arma III engine. They said that free to play and monthly subs wouldn't work for their model. They already hinted that it's going to be buy to play. They also said it woudl be cheaper then having to buy Arma II Ops. It wouldn't surprise me if they released DLC and such. A lot of great games start out as mods and the ultimate goal is to be mad into a game. Right now Arma II feels very limiting and it would be nice to have a centralized server. Yes, I believe most people would shell out 20 bucks for a better version of this game, that is enhanded and has bugs and lag issues fixed.

Silly. Nobody should have to pay for Half Life 2 since it was built on the Half Life 1 source and content?

If the team becomes stand-alone and begins full time development on DayZ, a standalone product with a standalone price point is perfectly reasonable and not at all a "dick move" or "greedy" by any stretch of the imagination.

I would prefer them to make it a complete new game and get rid of the shitty, clunky arma engine that's over 10 years old. Arma is a military sim, not a zombie sim - a dedictaed game would be tailored for the genre. As long as they left in what makes this good, we could have a dedicated island with dedicated buildings and interactable objects, etc with server sided options that address a lot of the complaints on these forums (Or make it one huge worlld we all play on but FFS, please don't turn this into an MMO - it plays fine just like it is)

Gotta love the talking about Activision/Blizzard-like systems while Rocket has been sarcastic about them every single time someone complaints about balance issues...

As for Jex, making an own engine takes years (>20) or even a lifetime with the amount of coders we have.

All of the critics and backseat programmers, I challenge you: remake DayZ in another engine like Source or CryEngine. You are required to have a map that equals or exceeds Chernarus in size.

[/quote']Half Life 2 is a SEQUEL. That would be like saying everyone who already owns ArmA 2 should receive ArmA 3 for free.

DayZ could be marketed and sold as its own, separate game if you stripped it down completely, to the bare essentials. For example, you can buy and play Garrysmod even if you don't own Half-Life 2.

Such a version of DayZ probably wouldn't cost more than $10. What I was talking about is BIS charging you the full price of ArmA 2 for such a thing. That won't happen.

And you played only a single mod out of many, not to mention the content of the game Arma 2 itself....Arma 2 offers such a nice sandbox for modders, maybe some of the new crows will start their own ideas for totally new mod.

If you don't, someone else will - Sorry but the arma engine is shit. Don't you think that other game houses are looking at arma sales right now and going, "why is a 3 (4?) year old game at the top of the best seller list????"

Its no secret (I've been saying since day one) that I personally want to see this become a standalone game.

But rushing into that is not a good idea. There are many things requiring careful consideration not least of all sustainable payment models.

Exactly what I was thinking. Just look at Natural Selection 2, that is a game created after the success of the mod. They even took time out to create their own engine rather than use Source.

The "OFP" engine, as used in ArmA 3, is capable of supporting fully unscripted, dynamic gameplay on land, the air, the sea and under the sea while still remaining modular and easy to work with. You're delusional. The only reason it feels clunky and old to you is because you can't quickscope like in cawl of dooty

Joking aside BIS is a business selling Arma not only to gamers but the US and Oz Army (Unless that contract went tits up). I obviously don't know the details of the business but Arm 2 is OFP 3, an engine that has been around well over 10 years and still has not had addressed simple things like getting stuck in doorways or narrow corridors.

Something like Dayz which has had a huge following (in it's alpha stage!) is an opportunity, a big opportunity to make some big money. Everyone loves zombie games and this is king (it still needs work to make it a blockbuster but...)

Sorry for being so abrasive earlier. You seemed to me like another "DIS SUX BIS SHUD USE FROSTBITE ENGINE INSTEAD" kid.

The things you talk about aren't actually deep flaws within the engine and are rather easily fixable. For example, getting stuck in doorways was patched years ago with the ShackTac Movement add-on. RV is actually an excellent, highly modular engine - the perception of clunkyness comes from ArmA 2's subpar animation system (which is being fixed in A3) as well as the poor framerates (which couldn't be avoided, no matter what engine is used).

It also supports an extremely comprehensive scripting engine which is the very thing that made DayZ possible.

BIS is great at giving modders new tools and capabilities (just read the changelogs for the most recent beta patch builds) but it's mainly the little things that they disregard. There's nothing wrong with the engine itself.

No i would not be mad, BUT - i would be mad if thay made me spent money on game in ALPHA stage!

If there ever Dayz come out as separate I will buy it on day one ONLY if it will be polished and bugs will be 90% less than thay are now!

If they polish this game up, remove all bugs and add a bit more content I'd be more then happy to pay them for it. You don't get many games like this nowadays and I want to support it anyway I can.

And of course you can't be mad if they decide to make DayZ a standalone game in the future. In fact you should all be happy you're even able to play this game at all, and on top of that its free.

Im not going to be mad. I bought arma2 for dayz.

Id gladly open my damn wallet. Pre-order anything in existence for Dayz. Just to support the game that I wanna play.

But they seriously need to match, or be cheaper for their product(on their own website). Than what steam sells it for. I bought my copy on steam. It was indeed cheaper, atleast for Americans.

Hell I already gotten 120+hours out of a Mod in alpha state. Totally worth my 30 bucks, and then some.

Bring me a polished Dayz in retail form. Id gladly fork over pre-order money blindly for this game. Long as Rocket maintains and does what he loves.

Then Id gladly fork over money for arma3. Just to play dayz more. Long as Rocket, keeps working on the mod. Otherwise, Ill wait for a price drop. Because truly, I dont like arma. I like some the mechanics. Such as looking over my shoulder. But this is mainly due to, not being able to join a server consistently.

Which is funny, cause the free mod dayz. I have no problems finding a server.....

I believe it would make more money as a stand alone game if support for this mod was continued first and after the release. If not the Arma series itself would loose a lot of customers seeing how many people bought into the game just for this mod. I know I wouldn't bother buying a standalone considering how perfect it is for Arma and how easy to mod in. I'd just mod something myself or play one of the other great Arma mods. I also won't be purchasing Arma III just for DayZ if Arma II support stops.

Yes you could argue whatever side of fairness and what they were really buying but in the end it's up to Bohemia to decide what they want to give their customers. A restaurant might not be required by law to refill your drinks, but you are a lot happier when they do.

That's what I'm exactly hoping for. I don't want them to release the full version with a full retail price too soon when a lot of people are currently just finding out about this game.

There's still a loooooooong way before this can become a standalone. I've died more to annoying glitches than other players + as much as I love this mod, the game would become very boring of all that is offered is looting and killing and they'll likely be adding a lot more content.

I would totally buy DayZ if it was a standalone game. Just have one question: would i have to buy a fucking new computer to play the game? I went to the Can You Run It site and checked if i could run Arma 3. The answer was a big, red letters saying FAIL! I don't even fill the Minimum Requirement. And my PC only has 1 year. SO if i want to play DayZ in his own game, would i have to buy a new computer?

I want Day Z to remain as a mod. I'm scared the game will go downhill if it becomes a standalone franchise. But...

If it HAD to become standalone, I'd want it to stick with the OFP engine and have everything in it that makes it so much fun-- the brutal, unforgiving gameplay. Bullet drop, bleeding out, having to crawl through infested streets. This is what I love. It has a homemade feel to it that I don't want it to lose. It's charming.
