Igor (DayZ) 96 Posted June 10, 2012 There is a very high possibility that DayZ Mod will be up for purchase just like Minecraft and Killing Floor is. But I'm sure if you played Beta - they give a free pass to play.http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/06/rumour-dayz-creator-instructed-to-work-on-mod-full-time-by-bohemia/
BigMorgan (DayZ) 3 Posted June 11, 2012 Making this into a stand-alone game would kill a lot of the appeal to me.I would love to see it as an alternate MP gamemode for Arma 3, or even as a (stand-alone) expansion for either Arma 2 or Arma 3.Making it into a separate game would - from my ignorant perspective - seem to limit the size and scope of the island/map. Unless BIS focuses on developing a DayZ standalone game with its own large island after Arma 3 development, which would likely take away focus from developing an expansion and/or DLC island for Arma 3. Either way, as an Arma fan it's a lose-lose.Keep it dependent on Arma-series development as a move towards efficiency; the large, realistic, and open island/map is as important to this mod as the persistence is. Jaleno 4 Posted June 11, 2012 We have absolutely no right to be mad if they were making a standalone game.. In fact we should be happy and support them!
cultiv8ed 0 Posted June 11, 2012 I wouldn't mind it becoming a full game at all in the same way that Killing Floor started out as a UT2004 mod and became a standalone game. Investment in the game would be awesome, more stability, maps, skins, etc.
sexacutioner 1 Posted June 11, 2012 Nah, I'd just make another zombie mod.
vanrosemont 26 Posted June 11, 2012 I'd love for this mod to be created as a stand alone game. Hell, I'd upgrade my pc for it. Only worry would be some suit trying to pander to the masses having any say about gameplay.
Sminky 5 Posted June 11, 2012 yup i would, Day Z is technically free, yet i'd wager a large majority brought an aspect of Arma 2 to play it, seeing as it's being devloped by Bohima staff (official or not), it would defiently cause a lot of bad blood. For that reason alone they would be mad to cease updating this mod, they're not bankrupt yet, so i'd guess they're not mad.But 'sustainable payment models' is worrying, i love day Z but would never pay a subsciption for any game, and seeing as a model of Free to play is becoming the norm and workable (not that i think that would work for day Z), i'd hate to see them do a subscirption and diminish the player base. A one of £40 assuming you have lots of great ideas where to take this and i'm yours though ;)
dakkafex 0 Posted June 11, 2012 dont wory arma 3 is backwards compatible dayz works perfectly on arma 3 as rocket already tried that, so developing on from arma 3 with minimal efort arma 2 version of dayz would have enough suport for a while
Donkey (DayZ) 3 Posted June 11, 2012 They should continue to work on DayZ as an ARMA2 mod only as long as it's productive for them to do so. The current product seems far too limited by the engine and they would be better off spending their time adding the features they want and creating something solid, not trying to cobble something together so I can get it for free. The game has loads of potential and I'd rather see it done right.
Samoflan 3 Posted June 11, 2012 I can't wait to buy Arma III, and will probably get DayZ if it comes out as a stand alone game.
lancemate 0 Posted June 11, 2012 I've had about 130 hours worth of game play out of DayZ in 3 weeks for my £25 purchase of ARMAII and I'm still not even close to bored, this is better value for money than any game I can remember, if DayZ was released tomorrow at AAA price point on a new engine, I'd be first in line to buy it! mzltv 2281 Posted June 11, 2012 I'd personally be stoked if they made it standalone (so long as the forums still had a degree of involvement like the suggestions for features, and such)It'd allow the game to progress a lot faster and further than it would be at the moment as a mod/side-project, and it'd allow people to show their true gratuity for the game by actually paying for it. l mandrake 61 Posted June 11, 2012 I wonder if rocket intends for DayZ Standalone to be (a) made in-house by BIS using Real Virtuality (Arma series) engine and released in parallel to BIS's other games, or (b) made by a new, separate company which licenses the RV engine from BIS or (c ) breaks from BIS altogether and uses a new/different engine (can't see this happening for many reasons, not least that there is no other decent true sandbox engine AFAIK).I would be totally in support of (a) or (b), but (c ) would depress the shit out of me due to development delays, game quality issues etc and loss of support for what is to my mind the most impressive games company ever to exist. Not that anyone gives a toss what I think :)
fackstah 31 Posted June 11, 2012 Had this been the case' date=' I'm sure we will give you a refund for the money you've paid to the DayZ-team so far.[/quote']LOL !
y00f 0 Posted June 11, 2012 after the amount of hours I've put into this game now I wouldn't be arsed if they were making a standalone game for this... ill purchase that too :')
moxrox 5 Posted June 11, 2012 The game Arma2 itself is such a nice sandbox itself for community modders, so many great mods were released in the years and DayZ wont be the only good mod now and in the future...no worries, you bought a great game.
jaycufc 5 Posted June 11, 2012 Its no secret (I've been saying since day one) that I personally want to see this become a standalone game. But rushing into that is not a good idea. There are many things requiring careful consideration not least of all sustainable payment models.Payment models?? what like a monthly subscription?? oh dear... Tex (DayZ) 0 Posted June 11, 2012 So you want to play DayZ, and i'm sure you'd love to play a more stable version of DayZ without bugs/glitches/etc, but you don't want to pay for that? Bohemia is a company - not a charity. Be thankful you're not dealing w/ EA or something akin to its ilk, and be thankful you have the opportunity to experience DayZ - period. God damned complaining fools.

sunnz 24 Posted June 11, 2012 If it means the zombies would behave much ore realistically, much better maps with more enterable buildings, LESS BUGS an it feels more like a zombie game, then i would love it.

ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted June 11, 2012 I would hate monthly payments' date=' a one time buy like minecraft would be far better. :/[/quote']Would it? Have you perchance read any of the articles talking about how they're having difficulty continuing unfettered Minecraft development because of this payment model, and are hoping to smooth out the revenue by charging people to most Minecraft servers? If you only want to pay for the product once, then you are only going to get "one" product which means the big-box strategy of DayZ 1, DayZ 2, DayZ 3, DayZ 4: Modern Warfare, etc. Is that really what you want?I would prefer ongoing, continuous development on a single product by a team of dedicated, talented engineers, testers and support staff. But ongoing development means ongoing cost and that requires ongoing revenue.I do not regret paying $29.99 for a chance to play DayZ during Alpha and I would gladly pay a subscription even now for the knowledge that I'm contributing to the development of one of the most unique and compelling experiences in the industry to date.As for the OP and any suggestion that the DayZ staff are somehow obligated to "repay" us for the money we invested in ARMA 2... well, that's just ridiculous bunk. They never asked you to come. You came because you wanted to, and I'm sure you've had your money's worth ten times over already.
rangerpl 1 Posted June 11, 2012 If DayZ were to be released as a commercial product, I expect it would be a DLC for either ArmA 2 or 3. Since all DayZ players already have ArmA 2, it would be a colossal dick move for BIS to sell it as a full game since they'd be selling you content you already have. It's not something they would do; they're not as greedy as EA or Activision.
nitrius 0 Posted June 11, 2012 Not at all, as long as the product is good, i'll gladly buy DayZ as a standalone game. But either way, if we look into the feature, i really hope we'll see this mod for ARMA 3 as well.
