Aypoc 36 Posted August 23, 2012 First and foremost, this post is not a rant about balancing issues, Rocket, or any of that other bullshit. I want to express my absolute love for this game before I move onto my opinion on things that really piss me off. To start everything off, DayZ is a fantastic mod that has sparked a new era, and a new meaning to the word "survival". Playing DayZ gives me an adrenaline rush like no other video game has ever given me before; and trust me, I've been around to play quite a few. That said, I hope who ever reads this now knows that I don't "hate" DayZ, and this rant isn't because I suck and blah blah blah.No.This rant is about something that we can all agree on is a huge problem.Security.More specifically, this game's security. And when I say security, I'm talking about the protection of the game so hacking and scripting aren't allowed. Now I know, that may sound like a lot to handle, but stick with me here. I understand that scripting is a HUGE part of ArmA itself, I mean, there is an entire mission editor based on player scripting. But when you take this ArmA engine, and you slap on a mod that adds multiplayer, it's not a surprise that scripting is a problem because the core game encourages it! Ah! Did you catch that? All those people who complain about Rocket not working on his game, and Battleye not doing it's job (we'll get into that shortly), did you just hear what I said? Scripting is a HUGE part of ArmA itself! No wonder it's such an easy thing to do in DayZ. There you go, you learned something new.Now many of you are probably confused, or you're already typing in your comments telling me I'm mad because I suck, and that I got killed by a legit sniper and now I'm crying, and blah blah blah. The thing is, I've spent some time playing this mod. And I've done research on the whole scripting problem. I know for a fact that there is a less than 1% chance to loot an AS50 from a heli crash site. I know for a fact that you don't need night vision goggles at daytime. And I know for a fact that if you trek all the way up north and you just so happen to stumble upon an AS50, you're not going to be sitting on Dobryy or Vysota because even noobs know those are sniper hills. Now I've done my fair share of player killing, and most of those players are snipers. And when I just so happen to loot their bodies they've got every tool item in the game, an AS50, and a pair of nightvision goggles. I've also done my fair share of dying, and most notably, I've been getting sniped. It's like everyone and their grandmother has an AS50 and is sniping either Elektro, or Cherno. There's no way possible every single one of those snipers got their gear legit, and we all know that. But that's not my whole point. We all know that there are snipers out there with non-legit gear. The point I'm more focused on, is scripting and hacking is a sort of, a disease. For example, player Bob scripts himself an AS50 in and goes and camps on Dobryy. Player Bob is then killed by player Joe who now has an AS50 that he looted from Bob. Player Bob then spawns back in and scripts his items back in. That's two unlegit AS50's in the game. Player Bob snipes player Jack. Player Jack gets frustrated after dying so many times that he decides to look into scripting and hacking. Player Jack is now a scripter because he's fed up with dying by scripter, after scripter. Player Bob has now influenced another player to hack, and has given another player a hacked weapon. And the disease constantly spreads. Catch my drift? Now I know I've jumped around a little, so I'll draw up a conclusion to simplify what I just said.I love DayZ.I play legit because hacking takes away the fun of this game.I have been killed so many times by scripting snipers that a normal person would have already quit the game.Battleye is outdated, and apparently, not effective.I will keep playing DayZ no matter how many times I get blown away by an AS50 that was scripted in.Hacking, cheating, scripting all need to be the main priority for the DayZ standalone, because it's ridiculous how rampant it is now.Well, that's my rant. I despise script kiddies with a passion and hope an axe murderer breaks all your damn legs. All my other fellow legit players who totally know how I feel, don't succumb to the hacking disease. Prevail, and keep on keeping on.
AlcoholicJoker 7 Posted August 23, 2012 I hope hacking and cheating ruins this game. I want to see this game go downhill FAST!. Steam is protecting this game somewhat but when it goes standalone, I cant wait, I want to see this game go down the shitter!.

Double_Back 36 Posted August 23, 2012 Hacking, cheating, scripting all need to be the main priority for the DayZ standalone, because it's ridiculous how rampant it is now.Agreed. We all know it, let's hope the devs make it priority #1 for the standalone. If it resembles anything like the mod in it's current state in terms of security, I will absolutely not buy it. Here's hoping they will since I love the game.Just lost a 21 day character about an hour ago to a server-wide, mass kill hack. My character just rolled over and died along with every other person on the server. No teleport. No Thunderdome. No leg breaking. Just keeled over and died while in the far north of the map while running. As soon as I saw the first 20 or so names "killed" hit the screen in within one second, I knew what was happening and tried to abort. But, too late.My character previous to that lived 23 days and, of course, that life was ended by hacker as well. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to remember the last time I was killed by a player. There is no mechanic, gameplay style, or bug in this mod in it's current state I can't endure, ignore, or learn to live with. Two consecutive 20+ day characters ended by mass-griefing hacks, on the otherhand, is just demoralizing.

What is the point of even attempting to live for 20+ days if you know it could all end like that?

bohdan77 15 Posted August 23, 2012 WOW. I just read your sig. First you make a thread complaining that Dayz doesn't 'Tell you what to do'. Your a funny guy. I'm done with this flamebait.

DarkRaven123 602 Posted August 23, 2012 You should read up on the subject before posting about it.Check sig.
DarkRaven123 602 Posted August 23, 2012 Also go to Cheat Reporting and read SuspenseLol's thread. I don't think it's been updated recently, but it shows how effective Battleye is against public releases.Private hacks though are in every game, all the time. How about you try googling "scripting in DayZ" and visit some of the hacking websites that update their hacks and scripts daily. Then tell me how effective Battleye is.And about your other comment, that's a very well thought wall of text you have in your sig, but I don't have to read it all to know that scripting is a problem and that it's pissing me off. DarkRaven123 602 Posted August 24, 2012 I do visit those sites.Well I used to when I actually cared. The public releases get detected and patched almost instantly.Private releases are far more tricky, as those people are paid to create the hack.Regardless of how many hackers are fucking the game up, Battleye is doing its job - One they are also paid to do.And all they can do is react. You can't preempt what the hackers are going to do. All you can do is react to what they release and patch it as quickly as possible. If the standalone has VAC as well, and ONLY sold through Steam, you'll see a hell of a lot less hackers. But that's still ages away. DarkRaven123 602 Posted August 24, 2012 And you example can be applied to anything.Google BF3 hacks. - one has been around since the games release and still isn't patched.MW3 hacks.CS:S hacks.Etc.No anti-cheat is infallible. You just notice it a lot more on DayZ because it affects a core aspect of the game - Gear. You die on BF3 from a hacker, you respawn and join another server. Udak 104 Posted August 24, 2012 I think anti-cheating software should have a reward for submitted hacks--Imagine a hacker just making a hack and sending it to Battle-eye for a cool hundred bucks...it would allow BI to get a better grip on what's exploitable, reward the hacker for his ingenuity...plus, the hacker can then sell it to a bunch of retards who will promptly get banned. DarkRaven123 602 Posted August 24, 2012 Pretty sure they just sign up for a private hack, pay the $19 or whatever and reverse it each time it updates, basically crippling that hack. They need to focus on the widespread hacks, not the private ones written and used by a few.
