New player, help with performance settings please.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am experiencing low and fluctuating fps whilst playing DayZ. I understand my system cannot play high settings but on any variation i have tried fps bounces from 11 - 26, sometimes levels off at around 17-19 but then slowly lowers.

The system i am using is a Acer Aspire 5560G...

AMD A6-3420M Quad Core (1.5GHz, , Up to 2.4GHz in Boost Mode)

AMD HD7670M 1GB

4GB DDR3

Resolutin 1366x768 & Win 7 64Bit

I have removed all existing ATi & AMD drivers manually and with driver fusion then installed the 12.7 beta drivers.

I have tried all suggestions i could find online such as, disabling vsync, AA & post processing. Lowered the 3D resolution to 65/75%, matched interface and 3D resolution.

Can someone please offer help on this as all i wish to do is play Dayz with the best performance i can achieve to enjoy it.

Possibly a guide to manually editing the config file to change settings for the graphics and memory etc...

More opinions on the in game settings combinations i should attempt?

Different drivers?

Also this laptop has the crossfire enabled to use both the intergrated intel and 7670m cards, should i disable that function and what settings in the ccc should i edit. I am also unsure how to guarantee the system is utilizing the 7670 when playing the game.

All help is much appreciated, thank you.

The thing i found to help was kind of guess an acceptable level of settings in the advanced. Then restart the game. It must need like a full game refresh. At one point i was getting 15-20 fps. I restarted with the same settings and got 20-40+fps.

Also big cities and towns with heavy foliage seem to be the main killers of frames regardless. You could try changing everything to 'normal' then restart and check.

I can't really help with the cross-fire side of things sorry.

Btw ATI 12.8 is out i believe. My HD6790 is on that one and seems maybe a little better.

Cheers for the quick response. Installed the 12.8 drivers and spent a while testing different settings but still the same issue.

According to GameDebate, your system should be enough to run the game. http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=4843&game=DayZ&p_make=AMD&p_deriv=Fusion+A6-3400M+Quad+Core&gc_make=ATI&gc_deriv=Radeon+HD+7670M&ram=4&checkSubmit=

I suggest disabling the crossfire. I wouldn't suggest using crossfire for graphic cards that are so different.

I know from personal experience when I used to game on a laptop, if you put the power/battery option to "High Performance" and keep the charger plugged in, it will allow all components to operate at 100% load.

I remember doing it when I used to play MMO's, I was wondering why I would lag, then I realized, I would put it on Balanced when I was in school ect, and forgot to change it back.

Hopefully this helps.

Yea the resuls given on GameDebate suggest it should play pretty well but the variation that happens surely can't be right. Restarting the game and entering a server again does sometimes have a huge difference to the fps as mentioned.

Also changing the the power option to high performance appears to make things a little better and more stable since i have played after applying that.

Appreciate all the suggestions given it has certainly helped somewhat, i will keep testing different settings and hope i can find the perfect level for my system.
