I personally don't think the mines would add much to gameplay, as stated above, most survivors would want to take the car, instead of blowing it up. And placing any kind of mine near a structure you've built and fortified runs the risk of you blowing yourself or friends to pieces, or if you've put it too close, destroying part of your hard-earned fortification.
