I suggest learning the game first. The controls and how to lose zombie aggro, etc.

Use http://dayzdb.com/map as a guide for where to go get loot.

Biggest thing to learn is how to locate your position on the map.

When you first load into the game, you are told your basic location in the lower right. But learning directions is super important.

Biggest tip is, Clouds travel East.

Please don't cheat yourself of the experience by preparing too much.

I suggest that when you've installed it first time, you jump in there with your first life and get a first hand experience of being lost, scared and disoriented. If you die or start getting held back by the weird UI, then log out and check out all the tutorials.

I agree with this mostly: At the very least watch some of the videos in the Beginner's list on the Guidez channel, and don't watch the quickstarts or anything like that. The beginners list should go over bag space and some mechanics, but I recommend the quickstarts only after you've had the DayZ experience all to yourself for a while

Welcome friend! friendly tip stay away from heavily populated servers ( at least until u have decent loot ) on 50/50 servers most likely over half will kill on sight, if u eventually come across someone and you see them first try make it to the tree line before they see you,if they do see you then bolt it unless they say friendly first, on small servers most will be friendly but u dont wanna take the chance, if u go into town always crouch run never sprint as a noob zombies can be a problem so the less you aggro the better, never trust anyone you dont know only people u know outside of the game, if u do help someone or vice versa move on quickly dont stick around for them to betray you or a sniper to pick u off. These are just some of the rules i live by, I hope this helps!!! :D
