Would you play DayZ if...

Recommended Posts

Would you play DayZ if it was a top down game?

Would you play DayZ if it was only hosted on local machines rather than dedicated servers?

Reason I ask is think of the scale of the DayZ. As it currently is it is hard to imagine someone doing a game like DayZ without copying basically every aspect of the game. So what could another company try to do change DayZ. This is very much just a day dream wondering type of question not trying to say anything about WarZ or things like that. Just putting the idea out there that their will be companies that try to do something different, drastically so sometimes (top down). So what could DayZ change and still have you play?

Interesting point from discussion:

Heck, STALKER and it's mods did alot of this already, just on a singleplayer level, rather being online.

So could single player DayZ with an actual win condition work or maybe just a Co-op style?

Edit to make why more known.

No and no.

Couple things could change... like higher food drop rates, higher vehicle count, ect.

Mostly minor stuff, nothing drastic. Make small changes, and its fine. Make drastic ones, such as change of perspective, and i'm out.

This is another twisted question like the one called...

TERA is SWTOR, and SWTOR is AION, and AION is WOW, and WOW is UO and UO is Runescape and Runescape is Kindom.Kom.From fucking nowhere,

Sorry mate... I dont see where your going?

Games will allways have some kinda of aspect from another game, even from Doom 95 to Eve online, i guess you can find something to tie these two games together at one point or another, that doesnt mean that eve ripped of Doom back in the days..

Sorry, im tired and should prolly not post this message, but hell? Im not completly wrong... (Atleast not in my head)

I wouldnt Play as a Top Down game, it'd ruin the imersion and hiding for me.

I would play if the servers were hosted on local machines purely because it'd make it easier to just play with friends. Although i'd like to see Dedicated servers aswell.

I guess this has to do with the WarZ/DayZ thing. I don't see how WarZ has any defendants. They went so far as to copy DayZ's name. It's like calling a game "Warfield" and copying Battlefield's idea but add in a worse game engine and some shitty new mechanics..but, now on to your question.

DayZ could change the enemy (AI marauders and such), scenario, map, terrain, character model, guns, vehicles, and so on. You're asking the wrong question, you should ask "what can DayZ do to NOT make you want to play it?"

No no you are correct and that is what I believe as well but the reason I am asking is think of how big a project it would be for a new team to try to create something like DayZ *Example WarZ... Seems like it would be a reskin but youd have to do SOMETHING different to set yourself apart.

No, no, and I have no idea what you are trying to say. Dayz is fun and unique. But it's not earth shattering. It's still just a fps with an apatite system. What will make or break dayz is what they decide to use for an engine and what they finally decide we need to do in the game other then fill a tent with beans. We need more then a few building that spawn tin cans and guns to make this game epic. I love the concept I am beyond words about what they are trying to do, I can't wait to see a more polished alpha/beta for the stand alone.

Not really.

World War Z: An Oral history of the zombie war is a 2006 horror novel by Max Brooks. This is a follow up book to the Zombie survival guide (also by Brooks) which was from 2003.

And i'm not defending WarZ. personally i don't think it's going to be anywhere near as good as DayZ.

Just educating you about your name copying statement!

You can easily do DayZ without being DayZ. The idea of DayZ is a pretty broad and generic idea really. The zombies really aren't unique, the setting isn't overly unique, the mechanics are basic shooter mechanics. About the only unique idea for DayZ right now is that it's done on dedicated servers with upwards of 50 people. I don't really know anything else like that right now. Heck, STALKER and it's mods did alot of this already, just on a singleplayer level, rather being online.

This is a good point Stalker is kinda similar-ish to DayZ with the right mods. So could single player DayZ with an actual win condition work or maybe just a Co-op style?

A smaller scale DayZ could easily work. If it was singleplayer or a smaller scale co-op, you just take something like half the map, maybe add in some scripted spots that come in when you get close, maybe even have a win condition after surviving a certain amount of days. The idea is very simple, it's not hard to tweak it to be something completely different to DayZ. Maybe just do it more like a very large and open Dead Rising. You have 7 days to survive, you can do whatever you want till then, but you'll probably never explore it all in that time, giving replayablity to the game. There's a brand new zombie game right there :D

No. The company that is making the game also made War Inc. they are using War Inc.'s engine.

DayZ would probably work IF the zombies are buffed a lot, and there was more to do, because currently, and sadly, the players spice up the game more than the zombies.

You can change the structure/exo-skeleton of the game and it's art direction and still keep me interested. What I enjoy are the mechanics. Top down would lose the military-sim feel which would kill the immersion quite a bit and I'd lose interest quickly. These design mechanics implemented into a Fallout 3 skin would work, or even into a cell shaded Borderlands feel geared towards fast paced combat.

Something I really like about DayZ is the lack of setup/intermission. The world is persistent, if someone dedicated their time, they could literally play dayz 24/7, even sleeping(irl) while laying in a forest(in-game). The only time you are pulled out of the experience is when you die. Add to that the massive world and hive server and it's no wonder DayZ is doing so good.

Top down view would ruin the immersion of a simulator like Arma/DayZ.

I'd play it as a local host singe player or co-op game, sure. I enjoy Borderlands, so it makes sense for me.

Top down? I have tried enough free iPad apps that are top down or pseudo-3D top down and I never get far. Clunky controls and fights get repetitive and boring. Many of us have a fondness for Wasteland and Fallout 1 and 2 but we have better engines and graphics for PC games and top down won't quite cut it.

Opinion given. For whatever it's worth. A smile and a nod, most likely.
