Hallucinations

Recommended Posts

Hey, I had a pretty cool idea where when your Food/Drink bars flash red instead of losing health (Like with food for example) You start hallucinating and players with high tech weapons and stuff start randomly spawning, They dont actually do anything they are just there to scare the hell out of people.... I don't know tell me what you think.

I like the idea of hallucinations in games. I even like the washed-out low blood vision you get in DayZ, although some resent it. I'd be in favor of having zombies or even survivors spawn client-side and have no influence whatsoever besides their presence. I'd also support imaginary gunshot sounds, imaginary vehicle sounds and even messed up health or status displays. Get low on water, start thinking you're freezing to death. Hands shake, thermometer turns red, heat packs do nothing.

I also think these things should impact your physical performance. Losing dexterity to hunger or thirst would manifest as unsteady aim, slower reloads and weapon transitions, delays when doing things like cutting barbed wire or fueling a vehicle, that sort of thing.

Though obviously this wasn't in-game, I was rather sleep deprived recently and I was looking for animals for meat one day. While I was running through the forest I was constantly hallucinating pigs and cows. My hunger bar was flashing and I felt really immersed as I grew hungry and this was very cool to me so I'm hoping when you start starving things like that will happen like the man dying of thirst and seeing an oasis.

I saw a glitched dead player once. He was aiming right at me, so I shot him twice, but he didn't die. It got me so nerved out that I bugged out of there, but then I edged on back in again. Soon enough I realized that the player was indeed dead, and I took all of his gear - but he was just standing there, armes stretched out with his sidearm. Spooky as hell!

No.

Hunger/thirst should have an effect similar to low blood, if anything at all. Hallucinating is too dramatic.

I think something like this is a good idea somewhat.. i beleive there does need to be alternate solutions to just " losing blood " from not eating or drinking(as would most of us would).. it doesnt make to much sence but with the games early development stages I understand its the easiest decision for penalty etc..

The effects from manutrition should maybe more along the lines of easier fatigue gain resulting in " cannot run " ability .. e.g lower stamina for most activities, the list goes on people.. hallucinations should be the worst case scenario for prolonged time periods without legitimate nourishment..

hearing gun shots etc and seeing "fake" players existing in the distance would be pretty special :D

I like this idea of hallucinations - caused by dehydration and lack of food.

Also would be a cool thing for bandits to have based on how many people they kill - turning a corner to be confronted by the hero they just slayed - only for them to waste ammo on a phantom. Or hearing ghost gun shots close by.
