Forum was hacked and it was restored from a 2-week-old backup. Any new accounts or posts since then are gone.

Please stop creating new threads about your account being deleted or posts missing! Read the announcements. All threads asking about deleted accounts or missing posts will be removed.

How about putting this in 'Announcements' where people would actually look for it? Seeing as it is an announcement and all.

I think Bohemia should allocate some funds to boost security here a bit, after all DayZ accounts for 20% of their sales, right?

I hope this won't happen every other week now.

It is in DayZ Announcements already. The link at my first post takes you to the announcement. I just created this thread because people kept creating new threads about deleted accounts/posts even though the announcement explains what happened.

By golly, you are right and no mistake. If only I weren't so daft, I would have understood that title to mean "your account was deleted, due to hacking". I mean, it's right there.

To be honest, I myself could also not find any thread about this, but I was sure there should be one, and I ran across this one :P Well, the other topic could be a bit clearer (like this thread here!) especially since it a great read nevertheless.

Really the forum mods need to start putting dates or something in the announcement section. There are tons of sticky'd posts there, how do I know which one is brand new?

Also, the title of the announcement should be very VERY clear, such as "Forum Was Hacked: Read Here for more Info - Friday, June 8th"

If I was in the mood to read about forums, security and possibly some 'troll'n' thread then I'd have clicked on the one you created. If I was in the mood to learn that the forum was hacked last Friday, then I'd be surely clicking on the title I suggested above.

As it was, I had no clue the forums were hacked until I randomly ran across a thread complaining about xyz that had a link back to the announcement thread.

Also, why is this information STILL NOT ON THE FRONT PAGE of dayzmod.com? It's not even on the news section.

Well that would explain why my account mysteriously vanished.

As the original announcement thread has been locked and I don't want redundantly post a new thread, is it necessary for me to generate a new password, given that I joined on June 2nd? The announcement thread says that Mr. Troll only got a backup from the 22nd.

Also, as I can't find any "dayz_auto_updater.exe" in my downloads from the 2nd, does that mean that I never downloaded it, or just that it's super-sneaky?

Sorry for possible redundancy, but I couldn't find anything through the search function and would prefer not to spend the next hour scouring my registry and changing passwords if not absolutely necessary.

Was directed to use search functionality and viewing of Stickies before making a post about my account being deleted. Looked at stickie's and from my perspective, which of these do you think will touch base on my issue of my account being deleted?

I agree, should have searched, and next time I will, but as some have stated before me here, titles need to be a bit more intuitive or make an official announcement directly communicating why accounts were 'deleted' from the forums.

When I joined the forum after the incident, and noticed the missing posts, the first thing I did was to go to DayZ Announcements and look for info about it. The thread which has text 'Forum / Security Notice' immediately caught my eye as the obvious thread where this issue was discussed. A lot of other people don't seem to bother reading the announcements first, or just could not connect that "Forum / Security Notice" might have information about this incident.

When people started creating new threads all over the forum about deleted accounts and posts, I created this thread and made it a sticky. The topic of this thread at least should be informative enough, but even after creating this people still keep creating new threads about it. Initially there must have been between 10 and 20 threads about this issue (of which most got deleted). I don't see why there must be 10+ threads about the same issue whenever something special happens. People need to learn how to search.

This thread calmed it down quite much, but new ones are still popping up (and getting deleted). Even today I have deleted a few new threads about this issue, and will keep deleting if new ones are created.

Not all of us log in every day, and considering the amount of traffic and new threads created each day (and the fact that even multi-page threads will drop off the first page within minutes), it's not exactly apparent that threads are missing.

You are viewing this from the perspective of a Forum Mod. It's your 'job' to recognize oddities with the forum. The rest of us are viewing this as just another player.

That fact that so many threads were started about missing accounts helps prove the fact that the announcements section is really not presented very well. I slowed the frequency of my announcement section visits because a majority of the threads in there are targeted towards server admins and not the players. On top of that, it's already been stated in previous posts in this thread, that the titles of the threads in announcements are not very indicative of the info held within.

Here we have several forum community members trying to explain there is a weak point in how things are handled when important announcements are made, and yet none of the forum mods seems to want to agree that a change might be needed.

I hope this isn't an ego issue, because a lot of the upheaval resulting from the recent forum hack could have been eliminated had there been proper and direct communication. And, once again I have to really point out that there still is no mention of the issue anywhere on the dayzmod.com website (seriously, I keep mentioning this and I get no answer). Why is it not at least in the news section?

That's why there is a search function in the forum. If you create a new thread without searching first, and it turns out to be a duplicate thread, you are basically spamming the forum because of you are too lazy to search or read the sticky threads. Now I do agree with you that the thread in the DayZ Announcements area is not named in the most informative way, and if it was me who created the thread in the announcements, I would had named it exactly the way I named this one.

However, even if the announcement thread doesn't have the best name, all of the people creating new threads about this issue could had easily found it with a little search.

The issue isn't so much about the accounts being deleted, it's about the compromised security which resulted in the accounts being deleted.

Forum members shouldn't HAVE to do a forum search to find out that there was a security issue which lead to a deletion of forum accounts. This information should be plainly displayed on the front page of DayZMod.com (or in the news section of the website) so that anyone, logged in or not, would be notified of the issue.

What really happened was something like this: Our house was robbed while we were away. The police arrived without our knowledge, changed the locks, made sure the criminals were taken care of and then posted a notice about the incident back at the police station explaining what happened. Eventually we arrive home to find out our key no longer works. Then, after getting a new key made, we become aware that the house was robbed by talking to our neighbors. Eventually we find out a notice was posted at the police station that explained it all. And we are left wondering why the police didn't contact us directly or at least post a notice on our front door about the incident.

This thread is pointless? Not for me. I created it just for one reason: To help people see info about deleted accounts and posts, and thus prevent the creation of a lot of threads asking about it. I believe this thread has saved a lot of work for me and other moderators, who would had otherwise had to deal with all those new threads popping up asking about deleted accounts or posts.

I didn't really mean this thread for discussion, and I probably should had just locked it when I created it.
