When approaching the airfield or stary, look to see if there are zombies there. If there are zombies when you are still a good distance away, tread carefully as somebody else has spawned them. If you run up in there though and a group of like 4 just spawned right on top of eachother, there's nobody else there cause you spawned them. Only thing you have to be careful of then are snipers.

Snipers are dicks btw. Don't EVER EVER EVER tell yourself, "well if there was a sniper, he'd have killed me by now". Me and a friend were crawling along the NWA for the first time and he said he heard something over an open mic, i didn't hear it and we thought nothing of it. Searched every hanger and made it to the firehouse when i walked into a corner and said something, ran to the stairs, my buddy went to the same exact corner and then BANG he died by a sniper when that could've been me.

Another time me and a different friend raided stary and made it through all the tents after scouting the area for 10 minutes, right when we started running towards the barn a sniper opened up on us killing him and then me.

Sometimes i think they just fuck with you, they let you raid the area and let you have you're moment and then BANG you're dead so they can just go and pick up the good loot that you picked up and ruin the moment for you.

Yeah Im thinking may skip NW airfield for now. Im still very much a newb and need to get some time in to figure things out. I try to find servers with 10 people or less cause I have a tough enough time surviving the zeds right now. Getting better each hour I play and watching a lot of videos on youtube and reading wiki. Gonna try and hook up with others once I get more comfortable with game and have more knowledge so won't be such a drag on them. Awesome game and Im so looking forward to the stand alone version!

Just going to state my own opinion on that. When a server has a low population, a lot of the time, that small amount of people is actually AT the places to the north farming them, so be careful.

Head up to the inlet past the NE airfield. It's nice there, and I've found some ATVs and camps around there.

True! Yesterday I was lucky enough to be sniped out of my pickup on a night server with 3 players (me included) at Stary. I've just become too careless on my nightly heli runs.

If you do head north its probably best to stay on small servers, theres usually some serious bandit action up at Stary and NW airport, and if u do come across a bandit up north im sorry to say but theres a 95% chance that u'll be out gunned these bandits aint the spawn killing kind they mean business, an AK would give you at least a fighting chance at a close to mid range battle so i suggest heading to the airstrip to the west of Cherno to see what you can find first (strongly recommend doing so on a small server)

Don't go too overboard on finding just exactly what you think you might need. Just go with your basics, matches, axe, hunting knife a Alice BP then food & med supplies.. I'm not a fan of the shotgun/1866 but AKM's are like a dime a dozen once you know where to look that or some M16 variant.

If you plan to live up there in a specific area a tent might be good to find.

You just don't want to put too much effort into gearing up as it becomes frustrating when you die on the way or soon as you get there. You want to learn how to gear up fast & move out if you don't intend to hang around the big cities.

Also might be just as good to head to Berezino & the airfield by Kasnostav.. You can find pretty much all the same guns at those two locations as you will at NWAF & it's less populated. Added bonus is between Kas & Brez there are 3 stores & a Hospital.

The biggest advantage to NWAF is that area just had more military location & it has a higher percentage of crashed heli sites, but I'd say Kas & Berez is much better area for noobie to start off..

My traveling pack contents are:

Coyote (24 Slots)

2 Bloodbags

2 morphine

1 painkiller

2 cans of food

1 Weapon (10 slots)

4 Mags for ^ Weapon

3 Slots for Whatever (chems/flares/meat/more ammo)

This is my standard backpack for the north. I also play with friends, which is why 2 bloodbags are critical.

M4A1SD - Effective up to 200m, used for zombie killing and urban combat. Atleast 6 if not 8 mags on me is ideal. (2 slots are taken by canteens) leaving me 2 slots for firewood gathering or holding food/soda for short term use as i find it, or for chems/flares at night.

M16ACOG - Effective up to 500m, used for medium to long range targets.

G17 - 6Mags and always 2 bandages. (Best handgun imo because if you are good at headshots, you have 17 shots = 17 dead zeds + flashlight for nighttime)

Alive 6 days now. Found everything i have. 1 Murder 3 Bandits Killed. The murder was a sniper's spotter who never shot at me. The sniper Alt-F4 like a pussy.

The north is a dangerous place, but the loot is worth it if you want it. Im currently going on 2 days of NVG hunting unsucesfully.

well of course I died Staroye cause I assumed no one was there, NOT! responded to Otmel and finally figured out I was actually on the island, lol. Heading back to Elektro to gear up again. Also, I assumed getting the shotgun would be better cause makes less noise than AK, no?

A thread just for this? This game is so buggy with Humanity back that I lose everything including my backpack in a matter of minutes. Aside from that, all the hackers ruining the game. It's not even worth concentrating on equipment anymore sadly that's how I feel. Not saying you shouldn't keep playing the game and doing what you do, but I'm speaking for myself since I wish I could get attached to my gear and whatnot so that I could continue surviving and having the feeling like it was a journey. But that's all gone at the moment.
