Xoro 4 Posted August 20, 2012 I'd like to see a possibility of choosing your character's background added to DayZ (Probably standalone version). It would govern what you will have in your inventory upon respawning, what your character's abilities are and how your character looks like (skin). I think that would add realism, because irl we are good at different things and you can't expect an average joe to be able to fly a helicopter or give blood transfusions. For example, an 'outdoorsman' would have everything to survive out in the wild (canteen, matches, hatchet, hunting knife, compass). He would be more cold resistant and able to run/swim faster than others. However, this 'class' wouldn't be able to fix a vehicle effectively (probably require more spare parts to repair or make it chance based). So you get it, every 'class' is good at something, but bad at smth else.A skill distribution would also make people think twice before engaging someone they come across to take their loot, because they would need help of other people to do something their character is bad at.What do you guys think?
boxman80 964 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Intersting concept and very good suggestion. It certainly would encourage team play more as it would mean that not every play could do everything, i.e. fly, survive the wilderness, give medical attention, be profficient with all firearms, repair all vehicles, therefore it would mean you would need a team of players who were useful at their particular "trade" in order to survive long term in an orgnised fashion.Maybe these traits could be also aquired over time or expanded by finding various books or maybe even traded between alive players. Again it wouldnt exactly discourage "kill on sight" but it certainly would reward team play and co-operation. Edited August 20, 2012 by Box
joost4533 20 Posted August 20, 2012 hmm dunno i just hope they keep the original idea of dayz just surviving looting and killing
Bobcomss 189 Posted August 20, 2012 Sounds like a decent idea, I know for one I wouldn't know how to fix a car, but could survive in the "bush" for a while and maintain a weapon :)So yeah I support this :)HAZ MA BEANZ!AJ
Tweakie 199 Posted August 20, 2012 Pretty sure rocket all ready said "nope, not gonna happen" His reasoning being something like "What you are good at in real life, you should be good at in the game"Basicly: no stats, no traits. Just you, your gun and if you are lucky a few friends. And TBH, I like Rockets system better
Xoro 4 Posted August 20, 2012 hmm dunno i just hope they keep the original idea of dayz just surviving looting and killingIt wouldn't change the core concept of the game, just give ppl a way to try different playstyles and make teamwork more rewarding. Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted August 20, 2012 No. Too forgiving.Also.> Respawn as "Woodsman"> Friend spawns as something else.> You find your friend, give him/her your stuff or vice versa.> You/s/he respawns to get more stuff. That's another no.
boxman80 964 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Maybe it wouldnt necesarily mean you couldnt do certain things if you didnt have the knowledge of that particular "trade", but perhaps it would be significatnly easier or quicker, for instance, if you character was a mechanic before the outbreak for him/her to repair a vehicle. Maybe less parts would be needed.Just off the top of my head I can think of quite a number of useful "knowledges" or trades fro characters that could improve in-game performance and encourage team play;Doctor/nurse/Vet, Animal trainer/handler, Policeman, soldier, Fireman, Bus driver, Civ pilot:ability to fly small aircraft, Engineer, Mechanic, Builder/Handyman, Criminal, Woodsman, Chef, gunsmith, sportsman/personal trainer....all of these trades would naturally have various phyisical, mental attributes and knowledges. What is the point of amassing 50 canteens or makarovs? Also, you would spend more time trying to meet up with your friend to give him the items than if you just looted them.

Womb Raider 92 Posted August 20, 2012 No thank you.I don't want any traits, character classes, skills, etc.None of that belongs in Day Z.
Endial 0 Posted August 20, 2012 I think that doing that would make DayZ too much like traditional MMO's like WoW. I Much rather prefer to see players all starting out on equal ground rather than having traits that you benefit from always.
