Dealing with death

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to ask how do you manage to play again after playing for few days, gathering pretty nice gear, and dying, maybe to serious nice pvp action, getting shot in a back or from just a annoying bug or accident, and start over again and again and again? Not a whine topic, i'm just interested don't you get fed up, angry, feel like you are wasting time or something?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all

sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean, and nasty place an' no matter how

tough you think you are, it'll always beat you if you let it. It ain't about

how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward,

how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! If

you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you

gotta be willing to take the hits and not pointin' fingers saying you ain’t

where you wanna be because of him, her, or anybody! Cowards do that, and that

ain’t you! You’re better than that!"

Get used to dying, it is inevitable and it will happen often. If you get mad about using your *sweet* gear then this not the game for you. Number 1 rule in dayZ = Don't get attached to your gear.

I find death as a relief... once I die and lose my gear, I am no longer in fear of losing my nice gear. plus it is fun to run around the newb towns regearing.

i actualy like dieing, its a whoel new chance to reacquire loot and have a new experience with a fresh spawn..

im a bit of a RP player thou, so i take every life/situation as if it were my own..

i never purposely expose myself to risks greater then necc./ or spawn kill myself

it keeps the game play fresh and exciting everytime..

even if im hacker killed/ teleport then killed. but hackers can still suck a bag of dicks..

It's inevitable, at least if you plan on actually doing something interesting. I actually don't die a whole lot, I'm very careful and observant, but when I do I learn from it and move on. My last death was actually because I was helping out a newer person, he took a risk and went to loot a dead body, I didn't go with and got cover in a building. There was someone there who shot him and knocked him out. I could've ran away but I decided to run out and save him, ended up dying in the fight. So yeah I died, but I died valiantly.

Also refreshing to die sometimes, less stress. And I find having a tent gives some closure, even if right now mine just has a couple guns and some meat in it.

I take a breath, lean back in my chair, then go for a walk.

I'm not upset with dying, I just take some time to recount that character's life. I recount the good times, the bad times, the silly times, and I think about how and why I died.

Then I come back, smile, and start a whole new adventure.

This is so correct for me and my friend.. THe_Weapon1 said

I have never heard that rule Weapon1. I only know 1 rule and i stick with that to 80%! "Don't trust anyone, only your closest friends" It a nice and awesome rule that you can stick with and survive. But as daspope said, i find my death as a relief aswell for my friend. You might ask why?

You get a new start, no murders, no zombie kills, a new life. Now when you lost your items you can have fun at the start like spawning in cherno or elektro.. Find a nice weapon and kill some noobs or some other experince players. The best player i have killed in Electro had a m107 with backpack and some night_vision googles and such. I hate dying with my favorite weapons as || M107 & AS50 || But as Weapon1 said aswell don't get attached to your geat! Well i do and i love it ;) I love being mad because i die because i just take the revenge on others ahahah ;)

I haven't died for two weeks now. Day 16 being alive.

I think I have all the gear now. It's just a matter of surviving and trying to stay out of trouble.

I live by simple rules;

1: Zombies are like humans, stupid, easy to deceive, resourceful and annoying. Either kill them silently or avoid them.

2: Human players are like zombies, but less noisy and armed. But a lot more resourceful.

3: One does not simply walk into Cherno, and one does not simply leave NWA.

4: Trust is weakness, weakness is emotion, emotions can be turned off.

and most importantly;

5: cows are tasty.

Lol, i've been thinking like this, the more kit you have the more your nerves take a pounding. Its often a relief to be on the beach with nothing to lose again.

Not gonna lie... I did get upset the first few times I had something worth keeping and another player killed me. Coming from a game like World of Warcraft where yeah... you die... but you don't start over with nothing, that took some getting used to.

But then I realized, this is the game. This is what it's supposed to be. And there's a certain freedom in dying and starting over fresh. Who knows, this life may be even better than the last. Maybe I'll spawn in an area I've never seen. Maybe I'll find something I wouldn't have found otherwise since if I hadn't died I'd be in a different spot. You just never know!

I find death is a way to relieve your nerves.

I had some nice equipment on my first day, but was teleported by hackers.

This nice group of people killed the hackers, and let me loot them.

Because i'm nice, i gave them a can of soda and left.

They let me leave.

Later, i starved to death. I felt SO refreshed being back in my natural territory.

This pointless story only states dying is the cure to anxiety.

Simple - I play this game to gather gear, hunt other people to fill in the gaps of gear I don't have and overall have dangerous lead filled fun. So death to me isn't anything bad. I just go to the nearest barn, grab a Lee Enfield and get hunting, climbing back up on the food chain. Rise and repeat.

I usually exit the game for a few hours go grab something to eat or go for a run. Come back when I am not so pissed about w/e mistake it was that got me killed and then get back into gaming :)

I finally made it to the international airport a few days ago the first time I had been there since I downloaded DayZ. I was on a server with only 5 other people and none of them was at the airfield. I had a alice pack with plenty of cooked meat and drink and I just found a AK74 Kobra with some ammo in the airfield. I then found a M9 SD pistol with 1 round of ammo. I went into the communication tower but I had a load of zombies on to me. SO I went to the stairs and I wanted to climb down the ladder and run over to the fire station to lose the zombies. But instead of my character grabbing onto the ladder he fell of broke both legs and died. I was gutted but I fined it enjoyable starting from scratch trying to find any weapon and some food and a map.

I've managed to stay alive for 28 days (hurr) and it gets dull. During those 28 days my gear got wiped and I had way more fun getting my gear back then I did bear gryllsing it up in the woods, hitting the cities out of pure boredom. So yeah, dying isn't a big thing any more now I know what to do. Give me a hatchet and I'm good to go!

Yes! This is the way I feel too.

I mean, it's not like you have to level *gags* or anything like that again. All you need to do is find some stuff and you can be right back where you were (or even better off!) than you were before. Dying is really not a big deal in this game. It's what keeps it interesting. :)

When you die, you've got nothing to lose! Running around flailing wildly is all part of the charm.

I'm still learning but I had my first proper session tonight and someone tried to run me over with a bicycle! :D

I sometimes get a bit disappointed when I die, It's always a shame to get so far just to die usually in some stupid way. (Me being stupid I mean, all my deaths bar hacks and glitches have been my own fault). But every life I learn something new about what to do in the same situation next time, to make me live that little bit longer.

The disappointment never lasts longer than it takes for me to respawn, because of coming from Bethesda games, I'm a massive looter. Love to search places just to see what I can find, so every new life gives me another opportunity to find those items I've yet to see, or ones I have that are essential to survival. (Pain in the arse matches are far too rare IMO). I do still look for loot on my current life, but as I have everything I want on me, I never pick anything up, except for the occasional Mag or Food/Drink.

Last respawn I had gave me a coyote Backpack in the Firehouse in Cherno (third building I walked in, and second time actually getting the bag). It's all fun, enjoy the long lives while you can, but eventually your character will be killed, either by hacks, glitches, or a player who had the drop / was better at the game than you.

It irritated me much when I died and lost all of my progress, especially to a sniper when I wasn't paying attention. If I was in the mood for heading up north, I didnt want to have to slog through kamenka looking for a pistol.

What changed all this were private hives (servers that save your character, but not on the main hive). That way I could have several different characters depending on how i wanted to play.

I've got one geared up ghillie on a private hive, a regular old dude with an enfield and an AK in the regular hive, and another guy on a private hive with an M4 CCO/enfield.

If any of the characters gets killed, and I'm not in the mood to 'gear up', I just switch to another. Sometimes, even though I have geared characters, I'm just in the mood to start fresh on the coast and meet some newbs in cherno and help them out, so I go back to the hive where one of my characters died and redo that one.

Really breaks up the 'fuck, I'm dead, now I don't want to play' feeling.

i died yesterday after being alive for 7 days, my record that one. i broke my legs (zombie 1 hitted my legs, i had 12k blood :P) and crawled a long way to get some morphine and i met 2 guys at medical tents near balota.

i managed to get first shots at them and killed one guy. that other guy started to say "kill me" repeatedly at the microphone and didnt move and didnt try to shoot me, i shot him few times but he didnt die for some reason, next (after a few minutes) there were a few supressed shots behind me, someone had sneaked behind me and shot me to death, lol.

my feelings? no frustration or anything like that, next time i try to break my 7 day record.

i have found good place to call my "home", no medical suplies around there but thats ok. it has a nice spot where cows spawn and thats important when u go solo. plenty of drinks and it has 3-5 deer stand spawns in close proximity too. maybe next time when i have geared up its time to hit nwaf.

death is a part of this game and maybe thats why i like dayz so much.
