New Player today!

Well I just got DayZ today (obviously a new forum member too) after watching countless let's plays and such. My friend from work initially told me to play it but I was so busy I never got time to actually look in to it. From the countless let's plays and such on youtube I had a sense that every player was shooting on site. This made me pretty certain I would meet the same fate. My first few lives consisted of dying and finding no weapons (on one life I found 3 M107 mags and 2 DMR mags but not a single weapon) On my current life however I stumbled in to what I think was Electro. I managed to raid the supermarket there and get tons of supplies. As I entered the powerplant I was chased by zombies. I ran up the tower and when I got to the top they stopped.

Next however I heard gunshots below me and thought that the players must have heard/saw the commotion and were coming to kill me (thanks youtubers for this impression haha) They killed off the zombies and one popped up on the stairs, we both crapped ourselves and ducked under. All I had was 1887 and 24 rounds. He had a ghillie suit and a CZ (hunting rifle) however when he popped up again we both looked at each other and he didn't shoot. I took this as a que to get the hell out of there before he changed his mind, on the stairs I ran in to his buddy. This guy had a bandit suit on. This sent the alarm bells ringing and I ran out in to the hills. Never once did they shoot. When I got to the hilltop I heard an explosion of gunfire and saw them both running back to Electro they must have had 20+ zombies chasing them. I considered going to help them but I was scared for my newly found loot.

So that was my first proper day in DayZ sorry if this is in the wrong area :)

Hello there

It's good to see you had an interesting first time!

Just remember, the game isn't 100pc solid. Odd bugs will happen and cause you to die and lose your kit, so don't get to attached to anything you find.

Thanks! yeah I realise that! I've seen quite a few minor clipping issues already. My rig is quite weak now (q8400 2.66ghz quad core and 4GB and a 9800GT 512mb) usually it can run Skyrim on high settings but it struggles with DayZ at times with everything on low and resolution on 1920x1080)

check out the Bohemia arma forum for comprehensive info on how to optimise your game via tweaks and strings.

Arma is a beast of an engine and makes many PC's weep.

Thanks! oh and I found a motorbike. I was bundling through the forest after leaving a barn and I found it in the middle of the forest. It had half a tank. I took it for a ride in the pitch black and ended up going 50+ down a massive hill in pitch black before slamming in to a tree and wrecking it!
