Rules of Engagement

Recommended Posts

im sort of new player, maybe this belongs in newb discussion section, but i don't want any "kill-em-all" answers. I figured out already (lol) that its impossible to not kill other people in this game, and it's not about surviving zombies, Dayz is more about not getting killed by other wacos. So, since we are survivors, what rules do u use, what steps u take or what boxes do you check, before taking someone out in clear conscience?

If they've seen me, KOS.

If they are in the area I plan to loot, KOS.

Well there are no rules that could apply to every encounter you have. Yesterday I saw a guy with a hatchet and I told him "hey do you want a weapon?", he walked towards me and tried to hit me with the hatchet, he did hit me once at the same time i shot him, we both fall unconscious and as soon as I woke up I finished him off. (now my humanity is below 0 because of that ¬¬)

I would say try talking them before they see you, but still most people shout "friendly" and then they try at kill you at the first opportunity.

Its all up to you really. Some people will say that the only box they check out, are if you are alive or dead. The "shoot-on-sight" people.

Then there are others who will either avoid other players when you see them in the streets, or if you bump into them, yell into your mic "friendly.. friendly...FRIENDLY!"

The only rules are the ones you make for yourself. If you can live with killing people who maby wouldent have done anything to you. Or maby kill potential murderes before they kill you.

about shouting friendly. i noticed that not alot people, especially in non-english servers, do that, but not necessarily they are hostile. But i guess most fool-proof checks would be:

IF armed (hatchet included) AND saw you AND/OR didnt shout friendly -> kill it.

This. It's just better to stay out of sight when you notice someone as most people KoS or stab you in the back first chance they get. I have only met two random friendlies in the 3+ weeks I have played this game.

probably true. All i can say it's kinda sad. When it's up to people, they will make CoD, not L4D, out of sandbox-zombie game.

If they fire first I will kill them.

If they point their gun at me I will kill them. (Lower your guns, friendlies!)

See them before they see you and attempt to communicate.

Don't wait around for a hug if you stumble upon another player either, move on or get to somewhere safe if you can, cover your butt and go from there via chat.

Be prepared to die is all I can say if you want to trust someone other than an actual friend.

If you do accept or decide to give help, do so and then make yourself scarce.

Its a gamble to believe anyone whose says they're friendly especially if all they wanted was a blood transfusion .

Enough of this crap. While this game is a sandbox zombie game, this is also a zombie apocalypse survival simulation -- a social experiment. There will ALWAYS be people who are there to help and there will ALWAYS be people taking every opportunity to get on top. Stop getting upset that you got killed and calling them a "CoD player" or some stupid crap like that.

Enough of this crap. Stop trying to justify the morons who are simply using Cherno as an extra DLC map for Modern Warfare.

I see a lot of people, they don't see me. That's my rule of engagement, I never make myself known. If I notice someone looting a town, I'll either wait till they're gone, work far away from them, or go somewhere else. The only time I've been killed was when someone noticed a line of zombies chasing after me, waited for me to stop, then shot me.

I'm practically a full-blown ninja.

But on the rare occasions they do see me, I just get on the mic and say friendly and they don't bother me. This usually happens around the coast when people are spawning. Not much incentive to kill someone who just spawned.

If i hear gunshots, or see people, i do one of 3 things.

1. Hide somewhere and try to get their attention without giving their position away, and then announce yourself as friendly, what you want, and what you plan to do afterwards.

2. Position, Engage, Loot, Leave quickly as if you just shot 50 rounds of AS50 and threw 10 grenades.

3. Hide, Wait, Move on.

If you are attached to your gear, you will have to basically kill on sight.

If you don't hoard stuff and are ok with basic weapons like Enfield or good old AK, then you can risc talking to people before shooting.

Past few days I play as helpfull stranger around Cherno / Elektro. Sure my lifespan isn't in days, but it's fun and more intense.

For example I check woods north of these towns and I kill every guy that is camping there with sniper rifle. Only thing that pisses me off is, that my humanity is on slow decline since I had 3900 and now its down to 2900. I've lost like 200 humanity for killing a guy that started shooting me with colt 45 in Firestation (I've yelled friendly to no success).

Funny thing was meeting a guy in camo with M4 SD and NV who actually DID NOT shoot me on sight, we talked a bit and then went our ways.

So usually when I meet someone I try to take cover a bit and tell them I'm friendly unless they have towel wrapped around their heads, then I usually shoot or swing my axe.

p.s. funny stuff was also when bandit in bus drove to elektro honking. We talked and he then gave me ride to Cherno (where I died minutes later ech).
