icecaps97 63 Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) My friend suggested fishing should be added in the game. I told him that that's not in the ArmA 2 engine. But then again, neither is cooking... So I was thinking, what if there could be a fishing rod in residential and some farming buildings. The fishing rod would take time and you would only catch 1 fish at a time for a certain amount of bait. And if you fished in fresh water, you would catch smaller fish, and if you fished in the ocean, you would catch big fish. The fishing boat could catch 10 at a time without any bait, and if it was moving it could catch 15-20.Tell me what you think! SASR 16 Posted August 19, 2012 There are mods that have fishing, ie if by water you can cast, takes a few seconds to fish , not all casts catch fish, same as from boat, there are 2 ways to fish either as a rod cast or the boat moving around a fishing area, both have been done and are currently being used in other mods, would be good to see an underground market role play to this game, ie, fishing, farming etc, but might be a bit much, i dont know, but all are used in other mods
wordplayuk@gmail.com 101 Posted August 19, 2012 Sure people will say it's been suggested etc.. But yea why not, I want to see as many options for survival available as possible.
redfield-77 315 Posted August 19, 2012 Im not against it but I cant see myself standing still on the coast while fishing casually waiting for the long death (aka sniper). If you could go out on a boat and fish I might indulge but it would have to be fun.

Kalignoir 9 Posted August 19, 2012 If this were instituted I can see myself watching the lakes a little closer.
redfield-77 315 Posted August 19, 2012 Mini-game? Or would that be a bit much?Probably a bit much resource wise. I was thinking more along the lines of at least have a few different kinds of fish or maybe even rare fish.
icecaps97 63 Posted August 19, 2012 Maybe you can take shark teeth and use them for other purposes? Such as attaching them to a stick to make a deadly club or mace?
The_Dude (DayZ) 27 Posted August 19, 2012 Fishing is another legitamate way to forage for food. I like it. Not sure how easy it will be to implement, but I think it would be fun.

I would make the bait a toolbelt item like say the box of matches and the fishing rod could take up 2-3 spots of your inventory.
SASR 16 Posted August 19, 2012 its actually pretty easy to implement , i play another mod that uses fishing (with pole/with pole on boat-or boat can auto fish in area) also farming wheat that can be processed into burgers to sell to make in game cash, i think an in game market system is workable as this would change the game play away from everyone just trying to kill each other to a game where goods are collected for personal use or to trade, Therefore extending the end game into multiple scenarios, i feel it would implement a more realistic role play to the sim, buts that's just my thoughts
