robert1453 0 Posted August 18, 2012 So ive played Dayz a while now and had a few choppers to fly but what ive always wondered is why a huey? Could it not of been a blackhawk or chinook-something along those lines? seems so odd to have such an old Helicopter-even if it is awesomehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W2DVLbBFAE&feature=youtu.beCheck it out if you got time
BlaBlaSoldier 16 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) blackhawk = huey? isnt it?Edit : Or no wait :( sry i did a mistake Edited August 18, 2012 by BlaBlaSoldier
Larkins 38 Posted August 18, 2012 I would like to to be random. Once one is destroyed one of the others would spawn next. Minus the attack copters.
kingssooted@gmail.com 16 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) I think there should be more types of helicopters, they would fit in DayZ and add some much needed variety. Also why I think their should be Humvees, hell we pass by 100 everyday ingame not one is fixable? The tanks I understand why there isn't a drivable version but the Hummers I don't, they are another nice offroad vehicle like the Military Off-road and Off-road Pickup, could even both several versions in, the ones with the HMG or the ones with a LMG mounted on top or the ones with no armament at all.One of the helicopters I would suggest unlocking for DayZ is the blue and white civie chopper it would make sense to have it ingame, and it can work as an ingame air taxi for friendlys, as it's completely unarmed and meant for recon or transport. Another chopper that I think would fit is the Chinook. Since all the crashed helis are of British origin, it would be only fair to include the Chinook. Plus it's a great clan transport, armed to the teeth with 3 MG turrets. The last chopper I could see being stumbled upon ingame is the 1950s era 2 seater chopper. I could also see Hinds being in this game as it makes sense, russia dished out millions to it's satellite countries. But a fully armed military helicopter would probably have no place in a game like DayZ or have only 1 or 2 spawn, and clans could hunt each other with them. Be nice to have tanks in that case, which would mainly be for postapocalyptic civilized warfare between two surviving groups. Useless against Zombies, but great for exterminating humanity. omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted August 18, 2012 Hmm...I would prefer to NOT be attacked by an Apache. Yes, I know that's not what you meant. As for helicopter variety, it isn't really the focus of the game, so it's not something worth concern. However, a weaponless helicopter like a police helicopter would be interesting. More of a civilian helicopter vs a military one.
icomrade 201 Posted August 18, 2012 The amount of sheer complexity of a chinook would make it improbable for anyone without major knowledge of it to be able to repair it without the rotors failing in flight. Of course, this is just a game. The only reason the UH1H is believable is because it's so old and easily serviceable, not that car engine parts would work any how. jdz (DayZ) 238 Posted August 18, 2012 The Huey is great, very distinguished sound, practical, simple, a true work horse. What benefits would a Blackhawk have over anything in this game? As it is, the helicopter is easily the most valuble tool in this game. There would be no point in having a different helicopter, it only takes 5 minutes to fly from one side of the map to the other anyway
rjack85 55 Posted August 18, 2012 There is no such thing as a "simple" helicopter. If this is supposed to be 5 years after the zombie apocalypse then I seriously doubt there would be any choppers serviceable.
CBlazer 8 Posted August 18, 2012 I agree. The MH-6 "Little Bird" is a lot of fun to fly in Arma2. It is a small, unarmed heli that would be believable in the Day Z world. (relatively low complexity; both to repair and to fly) Selfishly, I wish it was in Day Z, just because it's so much fun.
amaROenuZ 144 Posted August 18, 2012 At first, I think "I'd love to see a little bird in DayZ." Then I realize "I will never see a little bird in DayZ.". Because vehicles aren't found on the map, they're found in clusters made by hoarding clans. :(
northern20 2 Posted August 18, 2012 If we're talking choppers, the blackhawk is good, and any civ chopper is also a great idea (maybe have them have a high spawn rate as they are unarmed?) but i think the chinook is a bit overboard as it would be able to fit every person in a server into it and in general is kinda large for the post- apyc feel. Although maybe add in some chinook or c-130 crash sites for large scale high grade loot. back to point, best chopper ideas are civs, blackhawk, littlebird (not the armed one) and possible some modified hinds where the params are set so that it has no weapon ammo, or like 2 rockets left making them extreamly valuable. RaysGoodLiquor 93 Posted August 18, 2012 They are common, relatively simple to fly, and are available to both military and civilians.
amaROenuZ 144 Posted August 18, 2012 Honestly, I think vehicle spawns should be heavily increased, but vehicle repair item spawns should be heavily decreased. Finding a new motorcycle, or car to repair should be child's play, Chernarus is full of developed areas. The hard part should be finding an unrusted engine block to drop into that thing. puppetworx 474 Posted August 18, 2012 I was fantasizing about having a Chinook which you could drive motorbikes/ATVs into the other day. Now that would make shit interesting. Like has already been said the Chinook is notoriously unreliable though and wouldn't last long without engineers. Take On Helicopter has a large variety of Helicopters available and I wouldn't be surprised if they added a civilian heli into the standalone.
