Ingame map is black

So I've just started playing Arma2 DayZ, I am ingame running around and everything seems to be working fine, EXCEPT that when I press "M" to access the map it doesn't show anything, it is only a black screen with 6 options in the top left corner. (Map, Notes, Units, Players, Statistics, Sever control)

When I select Map it is only a black screen, can't press anything nor see.

Do I need to find a map before using this feature? or can I fix this somehow?

You need to find a map, alternatively you can use dayzdb.com

Hai gaise. So I just started playing DayZ, I'm running around town and everything is pretty cool except I keep running into zombies and when I press left mouse to attack it does nothing. Do I need to find a weapon or something like that, or can this be fixed somehow?

also, where can I usally find one? since I am running around in the mountains failing to find a way down.

you will need to find a weapon first,you can pick a weapon up from the ground if you find one by pressing the middle button, or the one you have hotkeyed to it!

Scruff, try going to supermarkets. They usually have a map and also an ALICE backpack which has 20 slots. Second best backpack, or you can try finding it in high valued residential buildings.

The best thing to do is look for a supermarket. Try and stay near the coast (in the trees though, it's risky) and you should find a big city with a supermarket in it at some point.

I have been lucky finding maps at the castles in the past when I first started.

If you are avoiding towns why not try there? Might be handy to learn some navigation skills in the mean time, like how to find north or use a topographical map of Chernarus that you can use as a reference.
