I think it's just part of the ARMA editors cycle and don't know if it can be changed. To my knowledge if you said it was 14:00 Military time in Operation Arrowhead from when you spawned it followed from there in real time. And because I believe Dayz is based around the arma editors skyboxes and stuff I doubt it could be changed.

I don't mind raising gamma and HDR at night, but if it could be avoided I would totally support the cause. It should still be hard to see and shouldn't make flares obsolete. It should cater to those who want to stalk and those who wish to survive. It should still be hard to see where your going but not too much so that there is still that fear of not knowing if someone is up above watching you from the hills.

Oi... Try setting your HDR to the highest setting, THEN adjust brightness/gamma.
