tandwan 250 Posted August 16, 2012 I want to say first of all that I am a sub-admin on a server currently being run on 1.7.2.5. I am learning how to find and ban hackers / script kiddies and I got to say that yes, it is a pain in the ass tracking these people down. The thing I want to say is some of you are not doing anything about these hackers other then restarting your server. I say some, not all, but some of you. I know this fact because you can see the admins being very active and you can hear about 'problem servers' which constantly seem to pop up. If you go through this forum you will read about certain servers which constantly come up as having hackers on them. These servers have reports come in almost every day about a hacker doing one thing or another. These are the problem servers because the admins don't do anything to help themselves and could really care less about what's going on.You pay 50-75 bucks a month for some script kiddie to fuck you over. Step up to the plate and put some effort into finding these guys and making their lives a living hell by banning them every time one comes on. If you're using Rcon, it's SUPER simple to ban these people and if you're using a parser then it's SUPER easy to detect them.Come on guys, YOU are hurting the community almost as much as the hackers are because YOU are letting them run wild.

Tyber (DayZ) 13 Posted August 16, 2012 I agree with this 100% but i think admins need to be told about those programs you talked about because many of them are not experienced computer users or just too dam lazy. That all i can say about this Tibbers out!
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted August 16, 2012 I agree. My experience of playing DayZ improved dramatically once I found a good server with pro-active admins that know what they're doing. Yes we still get hackers sometimes but they are instantly dealt with as are the cheaters/exploiters.
djseanit 16 Posted August 16, 2012 Look, I'm really biting my nails here to stop me slapping the OP around, but I will say one thing you need to understand is traditionally we are given a pretty good selection of tools that we can use to identify issues and hackers, this being ALPHA we have had limited means of detecting and indeed taking action against people suspected of foul play.Time heals all and things are getting better, like Fraggle says - find a server with active admins, I don't want to toot my own horn here but we're pretty active over on mine but you need to find a server that suits what you're looking for.CheersDJ
num3nx 1 Posted August 16, 2012 Well, i'm active admin and since yesterday i'm forced to lock down the server. We found not just one script kiddie, else 2 or 3 of them together, if tracking one of them is kinda hard, how you can track 2 if they work together and cover each other? I was feeling like a log worm, trying to find a spot, but in the end i felt bad for all those players who was playing at the moment... Being active - not help a lot, to make a trench you need tools, same admins need normal tools to admin the server...

A lot of people are pretty keen to host a DayZ server, and they jump right into it without researching their tools. Then they have to put up with huge amounts of hackers, violations etc and they are denied the basic human-level detectors to ID who needs to be punished. It isn't easy. And with the advent of the 1.7.2.5 update, a lot of info that my team and I would normally use to police our server efficiently has been denied us.Trust me. It isn't easy. And we don't like what we're currently doing to get the same result. Edited August 16, 2012 by Manta-Avoid
startrekern 88 Posted August 16, 2012 We've generally managed to keep a tight lid on hackers on our server. It requires dedication, but it's possible. Hackers have gotten rarer and rarer because of the fact that we've kept on top of the situation. It's not *that* hard to protect your server from hackers if you have a few people around that know what they're doing.
{sas}stalker 108 Posted August 16, 2012 Currently we are all to busy working against each other to an effective force.
Hardtek69 12 Posted August 16, 2012 Would be nice to have a list of all cheaters reported sticked on top of the forum, and a list of all servers using that list, cause it become almost impossible for peoples with normal IQ to have a nice dayz experience for long.Or idk, maybe run some official servers password protected with a white list for enter. ski2060 5 Posted August 16, 2012 You need to be very careful. The Admin on the server I play on most of the time is now being warned to stop his efforts to root out hackers or else our server will be shut down.We have been suffering ongoing massive hacking for 2+ weeks, with the server being unplayable. So when he started temp-banning people and then going through the logs to double check everything, they complained on the server forum. Now we have DayZ staff and our hoster pissing down our admin's back and threatening blacklisting if we don't just let people on and suffer through the hacking. This mod is a great idea, but the server control scheme is pure crap.
MrGreen72 15 Posted August 16, 2012 For the first time I've had to shutdown my server today because hackers flooded the server with booby trapped helis and even planes. Also they removed all weapons from the players. All what i could see in the logs were their victims but not any sign of a hacker script because they bypassed BE.This happened now the second day in a row.

You sir, are a hypocrite.
Khyron_UN 14 Posted August 16, 2012 working on it, I average about 4 bans during the day, more at night, but I do have a social life as well, I'm working on getting other clan members active and giving them access to the logs so we can get even better. i must say that there are a few Admins that have been very helpful to me when I have questions on some iffy stuff.
