I want to take unobstructed screens. Any way to holster my weapon in first person?

Yes just holster/sling your weapon. You can look in the controls to see what key you have it set to.

Dang, I looked over the controls many times but could not find the holster option! But you're right, it probably is there somewhere :/

Or you can point your gun to the ground manually, double tap left Alt for free look and then look up.

You can always put your gun in your backpack or a tent.

You can also salute and when you move, your gun will be at a low ready.
