Loosing everything while Swimming

Ive never lost a thing and have swam between the islands many times.

Mainly cause there are many good tents to loot on them.

Maybe it is server dependent as someone stated on another thread?

I just lost my whole inventory and my weapon while swimming. I thought its only the backpack ...

Feature, not a bug.

It IS indeed a server setting which is optional so on some servers you lose your shit, on others you don't but it's not a bug and you can recuperate your gear. Check out the DayZ Mythbuster videos.

It was implemented as a sort of realism mechanic.

If you watch the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan, you will notice some of the fully-geared up soldiers drowning in the water, and this was historically accurate, as a lot of gear can be .... detrimental... to swimming. So the game ditches your gear for you.
