Guess I'll be waiting for the standalone

Let me start off by saying I love DayZ. I'm not here ragging on the problems it has currently, because the majority are out of the dev's hands. I'm just here to throw out an observation/opinion.

For me, DayZ is unplayable now.

When I started playing, DayZ was phenominal. I've had probably the most fun I've ever had up to this point in a video game. Encounters with others got my heart pounding like no other game could. Running around in-game with a large group of my buddies was amazing, and I'm truly grateful for that.

But now, I have trouble joining most servers. And the servers that I am able to join without being shunted to an infinite loading screen are 3 times out of 5 plagued by script kiddies who get their jollies off by killing everyone in the server. I had a fully kitted 10 day old (which was my current record, I love how that short of a time alive is difficult to achieve) character die instantly as soon as I spawned into a server. If I'd died through some fault of my own, such as getting shot by a sniper or mauled by zeds, I'd have no problem with it. Such is life in Chernarus. But that it happened this way is what turns me off completely.

I hope Rocket shuts down the public alpha. I hope the hive is restricted to 4-5 different servers, and that full time alpha testers are brought in. From what I'm understanding, that's probably the only way to get rid of the script kiddies for good, considering how open ArmA 2 is to their particular brand of retardation. In my eyes, this is the only way for DayZ to succeed. And I desperately want it to do so.

Good lord, I've written a novel.

TL;DR Love DayZ, waiting for standalone.

DayZ needs more than a few people testing to find the bugs and give opinions.

Where 500 testers fail to find a bug that effects 1/1000 players on a game with what will probably be more than a million players, having it open to the public will find the bugs and get them fixed.

I agree with you, its become too overrun by people that think hacking is the only way to go. Rocket needs to close it back up except for a few good testers, 40 - 50 people that are the best to test.

Its the only way for this to survive. FYI, I quit a ways back too for the sole fact that my 2 week dude died because of a nuke.

Where 500 testers fail to find a bug that effects 1/1000 players on a game with what will probably be more than a million players, having it open to the public will find the bugs and get them fixed.

Then increase the number of dedicated testers. Hell, take a few months off and have an open beta where bug testing is all we do. But the way it's implemented now seems to be driving off more people than it's bringing in (myself included).

This is what were here for, I think this is the best zombie game I have ever played... We are here to have fun sure, but that fun has a purpose; a data mine for the devs to make a great stand alone game. The hacks, bugs, and random broken stuff may be to much for some players, and that's ok, you shouldn't play if your not having fun... but were (hopefully) working for a truly outstanding standalone game here.

Actually, I doubt there is much point to any data mining or bug finding from here on out. The standalone has been greenlit. I know they said they will continue to support the mod, but newsflash, they only said this for entitled retards who bought a game out of their own free will for a alpha stage mod and will rage endlessly about that fact.

Wait for the standalone alpha to roll out. Unless the pros of current stage of the mod outweigh the cons for you. I haven't played as much or as long as some, but at this time there are just too many cons not to mention I'm bored at lack of endgame content. It's alright though, DayZ already won my heart, as soon as the standalone is in anything even approaching a playable state I will be there. :)

I'm with ya. Shut down my server yesterday. Will enjoy the stand alone I think.
