oshi7 365 Posted August 15, 2012 I've talked about this with my friends a lot, as there are issues with DayZ that we think could be easily solved by going to a WW2 setting. Most of them are obvious, such as L85A2 Thermal spotting being an instant-win in a lot of fire fights, taking away from the spirit of the game and anti-materiel rifles being used against people that result in 1-shot kills anywhere on the body.By going to a WW2 scenario, not only would it explain why there are weapons everywhere, but you could even include tanks and other military vehicles without it seeming strange. Weapon spawns would make sense, as there is a war going on and sniper rifles, whilst still being very good, wouldn't be the PvP instant-win as almost all would be bolt-action and have relatively poor optics. To me, setting DayZ during WW2 1944 makes a lot of sense. You get rid of the powerful, and possibly unbalanced, non-sense and it comes back down to tactics, awareness and movement. It opens the game up for more possibilities and "cool stuff" like an incredibly rare luger drop or possibly even bayonets for when you run out of bullets.Hell, even flame throwers were used in WW2. Badass.
Allie (DayZ) 97 Posted August 15, 2012 If we can HALT the standalone version and keep this MOD an Arma MOD..... EVERYTHING is possible :)
Jimmy McNulty 98 Posted August 15, 2012 and you could join allies or axis and kill enemy survivors too! :D

Sgt.Asshat 607 Posted August 15, 2012 If it was set in WW2 it wouldn't tie in with the ARMA story :)Zactly, also WW II was pretty gay for FPS/PVP's
void.false@gmail.com 300 Posted August 15, 2012 There's a great Arma2 mod with WW2 setting that went commercial: Iron Front Liberation 1944http://www.deepsilver.com/en/game-view/view/game/access16/iron-front/Would be great if somebody could integrate DayZ into it because there's nothing better than having nazi uniform as a bandit skin :P
nev2k 16 Posted August 15, 2012 I'd agree on several points, like explaining why there are weapons evrywhere and brining more tactics into the game...BUT i think there should be highly military loot, i think setting up a ww2 map would be hard to manage and there wouldn't be stuff like modern backpacks or choppers :(The problem of "unfair" equipment have to be solved in other ways, like making military spawn less common, adding more differentiated military weapons with specific ammunation, so you don't just find your stanag mags in evry 3. or 4. place. But the most important things are, to fix tent duping and hacking and remove the new loot system, which gives too much ammunation and medical supplies in industrial and residental loot spawns (who the hell leaves morphine and m107 mags in a container hall)Adding more playstyle and tactics then kill on sight should be managed by making bandary more harder, like increasing zombie lock on range or stuff like that and the other systems mentioned. Womb Raider 92 Posted August 15, 2012 No, that is a horrible idea.I like the modern day setting of Day Z it suits the mod well. Most guns would kill you with one shot to the upper-body anyway, the anti-material are not some magical death cannons, stop making them out to be. Bobcomss 189 Posted August 15, 2012 Zactly, also WW II was pretty gay for FPS/PVP'sWell wouldn't say Gay as some good games are set during WW2 :)But door DayZ if it was set during WW2 the zombies wouldn't of stood a chance, especially in Russia! it was basically one giant gun back then :D
maxim_pl 9 Posted August 15, 2012 WW2 setting? No, thank you. I was fed up with it after playing 1st MoH and CoD. For me it would be the end of my DayZ adventure.
grezvany13 56 Posted August 15, 2012 Invasion 1944 + DayZ = zombie nazis...Interesting combo, but not sure if it will be as popular as DayZ is now. However, when the DayZ server files are released to the public (officially!) we might be able to create something like it and test it! VVired 27 Posted August 15, 2012 Changing and adding all the objects needed to create a WW2 atmosphere while making DayZ work will give Rocket a migraine so strong that he'll enter and stay in a coma for a decade, only to wake up and see WarZ as an internationally accomplished stand-alone game. notdahangoverguy 19 Posted August 15, 2012 I simply don't think altering the date in which the scenario is stated would resolve the main issue. I believe everyone as gotten too used to the present day scenario, and as much I too love the WW1 or WW2 setting I don't like this sudden change. I apologise but I'm honest. I do wish people would explain properly why they don't like the post they're commenting on rather than calling it 'retarded or stupid' don't be an A-hole and explain yourself and your love for the game.also there were ant-material rifles as old as the Mauser 1918- Gewehr. But it agree with that....I believe in response you could have given other ways or alternatives in taking out vehicle armoured/unarmoured.good post.

starwarsfan@gmx.de 450 Posted August 25, 2012 I don't think the whole Zombie/Infected thing fit well with a World War II setting, so I'm against that. Not a big fan of nazi zombies either.
harley001 315 Posted August 25, 2012 No. Dayz is fine where it is. ww2 has been done to death and not only that but ww2 dosent have enouth weps to be interesting. I think dayz is fine.
