I don't mind how its done so long as it is.

Me neither - but here we have a problem already - people are registering and adding their servers on the DayZ AdminZ website, the waters are muddied already.

We need to decide what path we're taking and stick to it, otherwise the idea will die and we'll be back to square one again!

Right a new poll has been added (you may need to delete your vote - so you can vote again)

Please read the edited description in post #1.

Then we'll go with what ever people want.

Uhm, again: I never said this would have anything to do with my being community support and the DayZ staff would have no control over that forum. :|

Either way it's your forum or an independent one, let the people decide I guess.

It'd be great if we could get the same amount of votes on the second poll as the first - then we know that people who have voted for a secure forum has also expressed where they want it to be.

My point was that either forum would be independent. My beef wasn't with it being independent -- I considered it impractical because it would be hard to integrate added features into that IPB because it is on a managed/hosted plattform.

I disagree mate, and no offence to you, it's your forum/website etc... so it's no independent. But that's possibly not the main issue here.

What features do you think we would need other than a discussion forum?

This really changes the nature of the question then we are voting on.

To me if both are independant, and one offers more functionality then it would make sense to go with that one then.

Count me in, and although I voted in the second poll question for an independent board, I would strongly suggest we aim to work very closely with the DayZ Team and get them involved as much as possible. Having them running the show would honestly put me off, there is a lack of trust between the Admin Community and the DayZ Team at the moment and this trust needs to be strengthened on both sides if we are to move forward together.

Get them on board by all means, but we have to show them we can be trusted to act fairly and responsibly without them having to threaten us with blacklisting etc, and they have to recognise that a good working relationship with the Admins in the Community is beneficial to us all, and especially beneficial to the player base.

This is our chance to prove once and for all that Server Admins are not all 12 year old kids playing with mummy's credit card ;)

Well integration wise if its run by dayz staff at the top of my head.

Easier to maintain who should have access i.e current owners of server that have gotten an instance id.

No worrys about someone signing up once & having to prune them from the access from forums after server goes dead / blacklisted

The possibility of in the future adding a webpage feature were people can lookup directly server info / contact info and request ban appeals,

since atm u need to check the forums or wait for mail from dayz support asking wtf

Maybe dayz adding in backend support for managed slot servers i.e add ability for sub-admin user

sub-admin username = instance_id

sub-admin = random password

If instance_id changes hands just make it an requirement of hosting providers to apply for a new random-password

As sub-admin limited access to forums i.e battleye scripts.txt & bans etc...

Anyway just my 2 cents

edit:- Anyway sure there's more things people can think about can automate via access to dayz backend's in the future. wiki access rights for editing i.e server info / user_database / server_database .

Jens has already said that it would be independent from the Dayz devs and they wouldn’t be controlling it. Also it wouldn’t be a case of existing admins with instance numbers being transferred across. If that was that easy then it would be a task that would have been undertaken on this forum I’m sure so you will still need to apply to join that forum.

The whole thing at the moment is looking rather convoluted.

Well we're 2-1 on 51%'ish of the votes, give it till this evening and then we'll decide what to do.

My tuppence worth is that it took action like this just to get a mention of some website that had previously been set-up. I'm also concerned as to the functionality that people are talking about... if we cannot get a locked forum on these boards when is there ever going to be time to confirm server admins automatically through the database?

Well, the advantage would be that we have more control if it's dedicated hosting. That is, we *can* add stuff like a wiki directly integrated with the forum. That's why I'd favor that solution (I would obviously give you and a couple of others admin rights if we used my stuff), as said, it's more of a coincidence that I already set that up but never got it started (well, we have a secondary IRC channel where we've been discussing stuff, so the forum wasn't necessary for the ten or so of us).

Well, as said, I'm not an "official", I'm just community support. :P

And I also don't really want to lead anything, I just think it'd be better to have things in an environment where someone has full control over the software. :-)

Uhm, again: I never said this would have anything to do with my being community support and the DayZ staff would have no control over that forum. :|

The way I read is that the advantages lay in that the forum is hosted on a dedicated box that means integration is easier, not that there will be any integration within or to the Dayz back end. Also Jens has stated that its independent to the Dev team, it just so happens that he has a forum going spare and is on the community team. He also sounds like he doesn’t want to head it up either and would be looking for others to get it going (which is fine).

So in summery the only advantage is in the control of the forum software, there is no integration to the back end implied, nor any guarantee that a DayZ dev will sign up.

Well vote option says run by dayz staff, i missed the post were jens clarified it wasnt offical.

Not everyone is gonna read the whole thread completely :P

But if jens wants to take a backseat role, and was just offering the use of a spare forums he got lying around...

Its really is up to the guys that are gonna run this private forums what they want to use

So why is there a vote ???

Well it certainly wasn't meant to confuse or influence, however there is no getting away from the fact that jens is DayZ staff.

The vote is to decide whether you want to use jens forums or an independent one. I think the 'features' that keep getting bounded around are a moot point. The IPB forums were a starting point, if there was some functionality that users think they want then we could tackle that when it happens.

Voted.

I'm very interested, and honestly don't mind who hosts.

I think this is pretty much the crux of it and either way Its going to be set up by Gogster.
