YouTube ideas for DayZ?

Recommended Posts

Right, before I say this I'd like to mention I'm not trying to hassle people to my channel, I'm just curious as to what you people would like to see (video wise) on DayZ? I've tried a let's play survival series, but it's harder than it sounds. Having to record everything you do and restarting when you die is a pain, I'm on around 92 subs, a small time commentator and would like some tips on how to make something a bit more interesting than your average DayZ series :)

Thanks for your time :D

I like watching random things that happen in DayZ, but you can't really make those happen. Doing random things though, is usually pretty funny. Like axe-murdering people, throwing tin cans at unaware players, trolling people, things like that.

And here goes the bandwagon again. YT is littered with DayZ videos, doesn't make much sense to add something that's already there a thousand times.

What you want to consider is what makes you different than anybody else. Most people show a bandit or semi-bandit squad sniping other people, which is pretty lame since you don't see that much on the tiny video. The other thing is the "dude... i found like... a helicopter" videos where people show one-time stuff which happens not that often anyway. So those two things are pretty much covered anyway, maybe a "I don't kill people" series of you surviving alone in the wilderness while avoiding contact? Or if you have a group, set yourselves a goal like "we will repair a heli and won't kill anybody".

The second and more important thing is what you want to talk about. Commenting is not that easy, you can easily talk too much or too few. So avoid non-DayZ stuff like "speaking of zombies, I saw Dawn of the Dead the other night and...", it's not really "good content". The other problem is you have to talk about something, people want to hear you. The best thing to do is generally talk about your surrounding, since it's informative for newer players and shows how important the aspect of scouting in DayZ is.

In a nutshell: Try to be different and talk about stuff that matters. Everything else, and that applies to every Let's Play, will make bad videos. And if all else fails, buy a webcam and do the facecam thing where you scream like a little girl at mildly frightening scenes.

Although I don't agree with the bandwagon part, thank for the input. I liked the idea about the I don't kill people series, that would be quite fun tbh :D

Cheers for the input fella, beans for you!

It's just that at the moment people are putting out videos for DayZ in massproduction, it seems a little bit silly at times, even though I am subbed to two channels myself. The most important thing is imho to set yourself an overall goal, you can still sidetrack of course, but most bad videos I see are just mindless running around in Elektro and swearing at the screen. If you have an overarching "plot" for your series, it's automatically better and more enjoyable than many other series and people who want to subscribe know a) you're going to provide more stuff and B) what they can look forward to.

From what I've seen on your channel (yes I checked a lil' bit) I can say the sound quality is pretty good, which is very important for videos. And your accent is understandable for non-English speakers like me, so that's another plus. Tone of voice and speed are also fine, so you're good in the sound department.

Best of luck to you, no matter what you'll eventually do.

Yes you want to be unique and create unique content. daskle's comments pretty much sum it up. Finding noobs on the shore and messing with them is always funny. Not sniping them, that's not funny just... boring.

The thing that makes me enjoy watching DayZ on livestream, or youtube, is the thought process that is going on at the time. Recorded afterwards isn't as compelling for me as a viewer, but chat while you are playing and thinking aloud is much more interesting. It is what differenciates you from other vids and lets the audience get to know you a little.

Should I move position, do I take the risk, A+B happened, so should I do C or maybe even D? Do I kill them, do I let them live, do I stalk them to see what they are up to or where they might lead me, do I initiate contact and help them?

Learning from mistakes, learning what works and what doesn't work, is much more interesting than "I was walking along and this happened."

Also, kill montages and sniper montages are for the CoD crowd. Not interested unless it is a season wrapper. Showing off the DayZ as DayZ and not just another generic fps or shooter is where it's at.

The OP asked for ideas .... here are some I haven't seen yet ... explore the myths of whether or not Green Mountain is bad luck at night, or drinking a mountain dew will usually get you killed soon after. :)

Visit and explore the nine most dangerous places in Chernarus with one life and see if you survive to the end! Balota -> Cherno -> Elektro -> Green Mountain -> Berezino -> NE Airfield -> Devil's Castle -> Stary -> NW airfield.

Set a goal at the start of a video and let the audience witness you succeed or fail. Surprise us!

I really really enjoy the sacriel, fhrope, oshiseven, dasquirrelsnuts, etc. squad teamplay. Of course you need a squad of decent players with you to do it as well. One thing they don't do often enough is have multiple players point of views of one incident shown at the same time. I think fhrope did it once where he got footage from oshi to show what was going on with the other half of the squad.
