Understanding humanity stat

is there anything "official" posted about this stat? I've got a bandito headwrap on my guy w/ -2600 humanity now that I've upgraded to 1.7.2.5

at what point does this go away... zero? at what point do you get the "hero" skin?

Do murders stay with you when you die? (I assume they do since my current spawn has 0 murders)

What raises humanity? I assume killing zombies, but it seems slow, are there quicker ways to do this?

What happens when you put on camo clothes or a ghillie?

My backpack doesnt show up anymore, is this a glitch? It's still functional in my inventory, just doesnt show on my character when im in 3rd person.

I would think it's the same as before when we used to have Bandit skin from zero you'll get the normal guy skin with no hartbeat. The more you kill the faster your hartbeat

Ways to increase Humanity ;

Over Time you gain some but slow

Helping a friendly by giving bandages or any medical assistance

Ways to decrease Humanity :

Killing zombies

And of Course Killing other players.

What? That doesn't make sense. Humanity goes down for killing zombies? In a game that is in large parts about... killing zombies? You should get a medal for that. Only bad thing is pvp (though it can also be fun), so I think negative humanity for killing zombie should be removed or better, turned into positive.

I dislike when people answer someone's question with misinformation. If you don't know, don't reply, it's not that hard.

As there are so many questions/posts about humanity and the way it works I thought I'd make this post.

Unless the system has changed drastically since humanity was last in the game here's how it works:

  • You start at 2500
  • Killing someone reduces your humanity by either 2500 or the amount of humanity they have (if they have 4000 yours goes down by 4000)
  • It ticks up at ~150 every 5 minutes of active play (not AFK) when under 2500
  • Bandaging others gets you 20
  • Giving a transfusion gets you 250
  • Humanity spans lives

Edit:

Thanks to zqseven for looking in the mod files:

Bandaging player = 20

Morphine player = 50

Painkiller player = 20

Transfusion player = 250

Player = someone else.

I'm not sure if killing bandit's raises it, I would hope it does, can anyone confirm this? (Edit: mathmattiks suggests it doesn't)

As I said, this was how it used to work way back when bandit skins were last in it may have been tweaked since then but I've been unable to test due to the insane loading times atm.

Killing zombies does not decrease your humanity

Killing bandits do not decrease your humanity

Misinformation = Not acceptable because you write "I think" before the statement

when providing medical assistance to other players your humanity will rise, if your humanity is under 2500 it will slowly increase by 150 points for every 5 minutes spent in game. you will loose humanity when you kill a player and you humanity will be decreased by how much humanity they have, when your humanity drops below 0 you will get the bandit skin, to get rid of the bandit skin your must get your humanity back up to 2500. to get the hero skin your humanity must be 5000
