Bandwidth usage

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just realized I had a spare comp powerful enough to run a DayZ server. My only concern is that it will run on my "personal" bandwidth (understand not a professional backbone or whatever).

My line is 5Mbits/sec upwards, meaning around 500 kBytes/sec, with no monthly limit or whatever, and has an excellent ping, thanks to optical fiber (12ms to ping Washington DC from France).

Has anyone any idea about the number of slots I could host ? I've only found indications on TBytes per month but that's not really representative of bandwidth consumption peaks...

Cheers !

They company I host my server on has detailed bandwith monitoring, I will search some data for you once I'm back home.

With 40 players online on my server the server process is using between 9-15Mbit with spikes up to 25Mbit. Hope that helps.

You won't be allowed to host a server with 10 slots.

thanks to optical fiber (12ms to ping Washington DC from France).

The distance from Paris to Washington DC is over 6000KM. Light travels close to 300.000KM/second, thus even with absolutely no other hops and no delays what-so-ever you'd be looking at at least 20ms ;).

I hate maths. (seems like they hosted their website elsewhere than homeland !)

Anyway, since you're reading Vipeax, do you think I'll be allowed to run a 10 slots server or not ? Thx !
