Chicken shortage

So back before I had a hunting knife and matches I would run into chickens and goats and pigs all the damn time.

I even blasted a goat through a bush because I thought it was a bandit.

Now I can't find an animal anywhere.

Do they spawn around towns as well? Or randomly all over?

They usually spawn in large open fields. Boars spawn in the forest. Look around the airfields(NE especially), there's almost always an animal on the runway.
