Why are there so few zombies in the zombie Apocalypse?

Recommended Posts

I made an account just to complain about this. I've been watching streams for a while now and I've noticed that zombie counts are down to 500 to 700. Why?

A single zombie poses no threat to anyone. What happened to the zombie counts from vids like "The Days Ahead - Part 1 - Welcome to New Chernarus"?

More zombies forces cooperation out of players. A single person could kill 5 zombies but a single person can't kill a horde of 30. This game is putting more emphasis on PvP instead of what it should be doing: player vs zombie.

Zombie count should be at LEAST at 2,000. It forces everyone to choose. Either you all die alone or try to work together.

Cliffs:

- Need more zombies

I assure you I can kill a horde of 60+, the problem is the zombies are restricted to very localized areas like towns and structures. If they were out in the woods wondering around it would be a much better experience but as of right now they are not.

I haven't actually played myself so I'm not aware of the capabilities of the player yet, sorry about that. But it seems stupid how one person can kill 60+... How is that even possible?

First of all, 500-700 zombies on a 50 man server would mean 10-14 zombies per person, on average.

Secondly, the zombie spawn rate was MUCH higher a few patches ago. People were complaining profusely about this, so the spawn rate was dialed down.

Thirdly, zombies spawn based on player locations. IE, if there's no one near Stary Sobor, there will be no zombies spawning there. As players get more organized and move in groups more, the players will be less spread out, with higher concentrations of players in any given location, but fewer locations with players in. This means that there will be fewer locations for the zombies to spawn in, which results in fewer zombies on the server.

Also, this game is about survival. That's the only stated goal with this game.

There's no stated goal saying that you should kill players or kill zombies. Your only stated goal is to survive. Anything beyond surviving is up to you.

[/quote']If you aggro zombies currently and just run they can do nothing to you, they run about as fast as you but have to stop to attack. Running backwards and shooting is an easy way of killing them, and if you go into a structure like a warehouse they are forced to walk so you can headshot them one by one.

Basically right now the zombies pose zero threat in this game.

An AKM holds 30 rounds per magazine. With 3 magazines, it's possible to kill 90 zombies. Possibly more if you manage to like the zombies up properly.

But zombies don't pose a threat at all, just as Nya says. Killing 60+ is no problem to one person apparently. This game is focused solely on players now. They can kill each other for all I care, but why are zombies so far and few in the zombie apocalypse? It's like they're just little thorns on the side of the road you might accidentally step on and nothing more.

[/quote']The zombie implementation in this game needs a lot of work. I mean it's early in the game development so they are probably trying to figure this out but personally I would like to see them become a serious and deadly threat in this game.

1.) Able to attack you when running.

2.) Able to run in large or open buildings.

3.) Much more of them and them in places besides just towns and building structures, having them in the woods coupled with "1.)" would turn them into a real threat.

4.) Spawn in proximity to a player like now but at distance so they do not just magically appear out of nowhere all around you.

5.) Smoother transitions and animations which do not lag or jerk.

6.) No ability to run through or clip into walls.

This would fix them as I see it.

I agree with this post completely. I have a plain zombie mod for Arma 2 and the infected from that are able to attack while running. Definitely ups the ante. I keep forgetting this game is still in Alpha. I'm sure by full release they'll be closer to getting it "just right."

Actually as you run out of super sprint, they can hit you from time to time, it depends on when they enter the hitting animation.

Happens when doing running man.

[/quote']I never sprint and I never get hit by them when running whether it be forwards or backward regardless of me having a pistol or primary weapon out, I have killed hundreds of them doing this without taking any damage.

Dont forget that the total number of zombies is dependant on the players.

Ive been on servers with 50 players and only 50 zombies because only one player was near any kind of structures.

They spawn when you get within a certain distance of populated areas (or any area with a structure) and they dissapear when you leave.

And dont forget that if 10 of those players are all in cherno or elektro, they wont spawn MORE zombies, they will be sharing the zombies of those cities so to speak...

The zombie implementation does need some work, but almost 75% of all player deaths are non-player related, with the majority of the deaths being from zombies. I'd class that as still being a threat.

That said, a smart player can, for the most part, avoid getting killed by zombies. This does not neccessarily mean shooting a lot of zombies - if you do that, you'll likely aggro every single zombie around, and bump the player-deaths-to-zombies statistics up one notch, but to play smart and avoid drawing zombie aggro for the most part, or if you do draw zombie aggro, know how to deal with them.

Suffice to say, there's plenty enough zombies to kill the players who don't know how to deal with zombies.

That, and a much slower respawn rate coupled with larger numbers would be perfedt.

As it stands, i can run into a town and shoot all the zombies and then before i can even loot a single house, new ones will spawn right outside...

It just doesnt make any sense. More zombies, but slower respawns would be perfect.
