Zombie Survival or Deathmatch

Recommended Posts

I bought this game a while back, but haven't really decided to play till now. Although I do tend to have fun just being in a constant state of paranoia -- I sometimes wonder if this is an actual zombie survival game, or just another FPS death match type game. I played the Arma campaign a bit; So I got some of the mechanics down. I'm just having bad luck with other players -- I try to communicate effectively and be friendly, but I still end up dying. At least one guy manage to tell me to head south or he would shoot on sight (and I did), but that's the most hospitality I ever obtain in this game. I even tried the 'woodsman' strategy / avoid all major cities at all cost type strategy and managed to find two deer stands. Looted the first one and got an AKS Cobra (sweet gun!) or something; Then I approached the second one and bam! My legs are crippled and I don't even try to communicate with the fellow who shot me -- In the upmost dissapointment I said 'just kill me' and the worst part is that he just left me there. What am I doing wrong? (Also. First post. Hi DayZ forums.)

You're not doing anything wrong. Sounds like you're experiencing the same game as everyone else. If you want more fellowship, join and clan or get some friends to play with you.

Folk just aren't very friendly, although I have met two that helped me out in a week or so of playing. It's best to team up I suppose but who do you trust?

I avoid everyone like the plague but still got killed last night while looking for supplies.

Sounds like you ran into the clan called "Assholes". They're the most numerous and commonly run across clan in all of the Day Z world.

Once you had north it becomes Zombie Survival.

My current character has been alive a couple of days now and I haven't seen another player for the past 12 hours of playtime even on servers with 30+ people on them.

I've been up north looking for helicopter crashes and finally found one. Got a nice LMG out of it that 1 shots zombies but it's loud as hell.

So just loot what you can in the coastal cities (try to get an axe for silent kills and a pistol for when you need to kill quietly at range) and head north. If you spawn around Cherno or Elektro loot the fire station first as it is the highest risk and will have the best weapons. Then head to the grocery store, maybe the church, and get the heck out of there!!!

When I spawned near Cherno this play through I just didn't give a f**k. I got killed by a hacker and lost my GPS, night vision, m14 aim, etc. So I was just running full speed around Cherno running through buildings to lose zombie aggro and picking up what I could. I got to the apartments and there was a sniper waiting and talking on the voice chat in one of the tall buildings watching the hospital. I was able to sneak up on him, kill him, took his gun and his GPS and went on my merry way. Found some corpse nearby with night vision and hauled ass away from that nightmare. Haven't seen another soul since and getting kind of bored.

Kind of want to go back to the high population city for deathmatch because zombie survival gets boring. I run around, see noone, kill a few zombies, eat some beans, drink some soda, and continue to search for helicopter crash sights. You're either in deathmatch playing "death simulator" or you're in zombie survival playing "loot simulator". As much as I want to keep positive karma I'm getting kind of bored constantly looking for loot that I'll just end up losing to a hacker if I don't go lose it to another player in Cherno or Elektro... I really need to find a tent to put my valuables in and then maybe I'll join the medic task force or whatever and help people. However I'm sure they will turn on me and then I'll have to add their name to DayZCommander and track them down and murder them repeatedly.

It took me about 3 weeks for a random friendly encounter.

Most of the time you are lucky if people merely let you pass without shooting at you.

I rolled with a clan on a couple of missions but I met them on the forum which wasn't nearly as much fun as finding your first random friendly.

For me, it was worth the wait. Other people might not be as patient....
