An idea that struck me - A new Z

What if we added just one more type of Z? One for the seasoned hardcore players, one for the players that wish to face death in its... Well, not eyes... (more on that later) but its incarnation, something so frightening, players would most likely run away from it, rather than try to kill it.

This is my idea: A Freddy Kruger Z. Don't get me wrong though, it's all about Z, I use the term Freddy Kruger to describe it generally.

This Z would have it's fingers replaced by blades, it would have a piece of cloth in front of its eyes, it would have no mouth, would be of a color that resembles rotten flesh, it would be very weak, but it will be maked up for in concealment and speed, it should be able to break your bones in one lunge at you.

But it will have its weaknesses, although few, they may be exploited. You see, this Z has no eyes, so it hunts by sound. It would hear you walk, moving, anything. Throw a can, it will aggro at the can, you know, such things. It would detect you at these ranges:

>150m : "((("

<150m : "(((("

If it heard you, it would let out a high pitched, really loud, but short screech, but it wouldn't aggro if you didn't keep doing that sound, it would just start shambling at you at 75% of normal crouch running speed, if it really aggroed though, it would let out an extremely loud, long screech, being able to be heard at 1,5km of range (by players).

It would only spawn at night, in deep forests and only if specified by the server host. This would put a lot of horror into DayZ for those willing to face it. Just imagine yourself crouch running into a forest, then standing up to run, and when you start to do, you hear this bloodcurdling screech, then suddenly, out of the dark, this horror lunges at you, knocks you down and breaks your bones, then starts chopping at your body, 24 hits from full health and you are dead. Horror at its finest level.

THE FINAL SPECS:

Speed: normal shambling speed, if semi aggroed, it will shamble at 75% of crouch run speed towards your general direction.

When aggroed: it will run at 125% of player sprint speed and 100% indoors, lets out high short screech when semi aggroed, and a long powerful screech when aggroed fully.

Attack: Very powerful lunge, deals 200 damage on impact, breaks your bones. 24 slashes from full health will kill.

Health: weak, a few shots at the body kills it, speed and concealment makes up for this

Spawn rate: One per server, only present at night and only in the northern parts of the forests, when killed it will reappear after 1 hour / 30 minutes (settable by server owner)

Weaknesses: Easily distracted, even a tin can may distract it away from you. Only unwary players will therefore get killed.

This Z would be optional for servers, and disabled by default (Texas Red suggestion)

final specs have been changed, too hard to beat otherwise

Tell me what you think and maybe what to improve. Also, suggest a name for it please.

I yell a resounding "FUCK NO" to special infected.

Possibly unique infected with armor or helmets on, but FUCK no to mutated zeds.

Idea is good, but I personally wouldn't want to play with this. The idea itself is amazing. But I would be scared sh**less if I found one of these. So, personally, I don't like the thought of facing this, but it would be a nice option to have for admins/hosters. Get this to the dev team and you got a chance, maybe.

Lets think about zombies movies for a moment. Do any of the good zombie movies have crazy mutated "boss" zombies?

Actually, it sounds good. But instead of making it like some sort of mutation, give it a back story, something like: a psychopath with an axe wandering the woods at night got infected. It could fit very well without going 'un-realistic'.

Zombie variants are a good idea, beyond the walker/hopper/crawler we have now. I'd rather see something that's less like a "hero unit" and more variety in the general population.

For instance, I like your idea of a blind zombie with acute hearing. Let different kinds of zombies use different detection mechanics to different degrees, so maybe some see really well but can't hear anything (as seems to be the case currently) while others are nearly blind but will react to sound.

Bigger, more powerful zombies could also be cool. Just have some that do more damage or have a better chance to knock you down/fracture your bones. Another good one would be helmets. Have military zombies wear helmets that deflect any hit that does less than 2000 damage, so no more M9SD as you go hangar to hangar unless you're willing to pump a bunch of lead into the thing's torso or shoot it right in its face.

To be honest, infected people with mutations is a big no for this game. I don't want to have to run into a zombie that can "1 hit k0 me" pretty much.

However, i do LOVE the idea of infected people screaming. I mean, right now they kinda mumble and grunt. But would none of them scream aloud, and alert more infected people to your area? This could be interesting, and "normal" infected roaming the forest would provide quite a thrill at night to run into.

Right now running through a forest is like playing Pyro on TF2. Hold one button and your G2G. But all of a sudden hearing a loud scream, and having a few infected run at you from the forest would be quite exciting.

TL;DR - Special Infected? NO. Screaming infected? YES

i realised it was next to impossible to kill, so i changed the final specs for it.

also a little trivia: i got the idea after i had a nightmare about DayZ, and this thing was in it.

Where did i say it was a mutation?

i think the backstory would be a man with no fingers and eyes was infected in close contact with metal, it gained an extraordinary amount of intelligence after the infection. and the metal blunt fingers was too heavy for it to carry, so he made them into blades, but still, after he had gained that intelligence, he was still controlled by instincts, so he became extremely territorial over the forests and started roaming it.
