Getting off on the right foot

Recommended Posts

So my friend and I are bored of raiding cities and hunting bandits, and figured we'd start a little experiment. The hardest part of the game for new players seems to be the first hour or so of trying to find a gun and supplies. So, we're sitting outside Elektro right now with a sniper rifle and a thermal gun. Anyone we see entering the city with a firearm in their hands will be shot.

If you're having trouble getting started, head to Elektro and feel free to loot the place up. If you find a gun, feel free to grab it for later use. If you pull it out and start running around with it, you'll have probably 7-8 seconds before you get shot in the head.

We're going to see how long we can maintain this safe zone for starting players before the bandits and hackers show up to steal everyone's hatchets and painkillers.

Anyone who's interested, PM me for the server info. (This is a US server)

Open season on elektro in ten minutes. If anyone else is going to sign up, let me know so I have an idea how many people to watch for.

Shout out to zombiebait for giving me a blood transfusion @ 200 blood. Thanks again :)

No worries, but next time don't point the gun at me lol. That almost went very badly. :P

Thanks man you're a true bro.

No problem. PM if you want to join the raid.

Lol. Watch new players get owned by zombies because apparently guns are illegal.

More likely, watch this guy shoot the hamsters after they loot elektro for him, and load up his truck.

I'll be honest I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish here...Just because someone's got a weapon doesn't mean they deserve a bullet--you've a weapon, and you think you're making the rules, which is cute, but you've no grounds to base any assumptions on when it comes to an armed survivor. I walk through Elektro helping the new spawns and keeping the hillsides clean from snipers, but I'm not mindlessly killing armed persons unless they're openly hostile.

I guess I'm confused how this would be a "safe zone" and not marshal law by some wannabe cowboy?

For starters, I have multiple people who can vouch for the fact that I have marched halfway across the map to rescue complete strangers, and several of them have posted about it here on the forums. Use the search function for my name if you'd like to see for yourself.

Secondly, if I needed loot, I would raid any one of the huge number of known tent cities and stock up on everything.

Lastly, new players have nothing worth stealing, so this would be a waste of my time when I could be looting Berezino/Zelenogorsk for everything I need.

I was pretty transparent about what I am trying to accomplish here, so if you don't see it, try rereading my post. As for me making the rules, yes, you are correct. That is exactly what I'm doing. I suggest you not come to the server I'm using, since I'd hate to kill you over a 'cute' misunderstanding.

In case you haven't been browsing the forums lately, I shall provide you a brief history lesson. The idea of a 'safe haven' or a 'fort friendly' has failed over and over again because bandits just come shoot the place up from the outside with sniper rifles, or they sneak inside posing as a friendly and plant satchel charges everywhere. Putting up sandbags and barbed wire does not secure the area, it merely informs the bandits where you are. So I'm attempting to do this a different way, namely monitoring the area from a safe distance. If you don't approve of this method, then don't visit. Simple as that. Or you can come to the server and attempt to free these people from the tyranny I am imposing, that's up to you. Being a nice guy and trying to help through refugee camps etc. has accomplished very little, so I'm trying a different approach. If you have a better idea how to do this, I'm all ears.

Better idea? Squads, more than two. Stationed. Forget the barbed wire and sand bag nonsense, it's just going to slow you down in an attack. Overwatch--a few in different locations. Watchers to watch the overwatch. A TS or other such communication device. Designated in-town diplomat.

I've been using a format like this for weeks now. It's easy to identify survivors and those who just want to cause trouble. I've had successful trades, have successfully saved a couple lives, successfully put down another squad of bandits, the likes.

The only thing transparent about what you're proposing is that if you attempt to arm yourself, you're going to get shot. You can't put a primary weapon in a starter pack, and sitting in the hills isn't going to keep a new survivor alive from players you don't see, or zed (since newer players apparently have trouble with zed?).Unless you're also proposing that you're going to follow the unarmed around and when they pick up a weapon you kick them out of town?

You still haven't actually read my post, have you? I already said that barbed wire and sandbags are a waste of time, you are simply repeating me now. Teamspeak = easy to spy on and get shot. You are also suggesting far more manpower than I care to try and organize.

In other words, you have done the same thing I have, but it took a whole team of you to do what I have been doing either solo or with one friend.

There is an item in the game called a hatchet, you can use it to effortlessly kill zombies without making any noise. So far, the people who have agreed to come here have had no issues using them to defend themselves. And yes, you are correct, pulling out a gun will get you shot.

The moment I try to expand this into the mess you're describing, I bring all the bandits in the world to my location. I will say once again, if you don't like my method, then don't visit. But stop trying to tell me how to run my own event; it is working fine thus far and requires FAR less coordination and manpower than your ideas.
