What is the deal with Flies?

Recommended Posts

I have checked the wiki and could not find anything, but I have a few questions regarding the flies. I understand that they are only attracted to dead players and not zombies.

Here are the questions that I do have:

  1. How soon after a player dies do the flies arrive?
  2. How far away can you hear the flies?
  3. How long do the flies stay at the body? Is it until it disappears or is hidden?

Any help would be great.

1. Immediately

2. Generally around 20-40 meters. I don't have an exact number.

3. I'm not sure. They definitely clear at server resets. You can also choose to hide the body to remove them. Sometimes the body will despawn and the fly noise will still be there.

Ah, thanks Buffjesus. You are like a Day Z encyclopedia sometimes.

Seeing as this thread is 8 months old it shouldn't have been revived. It was sleeping quite well and we did hear flies up until this point, so it's safe to assume this thread was dead.
