i was heading to NW airfield, when i got near to it, breakfast was ready, so i disconnected. when i rejoined the game....

dont close the game while loading

while loading your guy is in the plains, so if you alt+f4 out your guy is still on the plains.

then when you load in on a diff server it detects your last location in the plains and puts you on the coast

it's linked to Alt-f4ing and Server hopping. if you disconnect /reconnect to another server in a short period of time it'll think you're ghosting.

generally I've been waiting 30 seconds before joining servers and it's not been putting me on the coast anymore

This happened to me the other day... Was at the NW airfield, then next time I connected I was in Elektro with a heli overhead. Thought I was dead for sure... xD

nope. it's Arma 2s newest beta patch... never had it before. and didnt had it since downgrading beta version.

Definitely wasn't alt + F4 rated for me. I've never done it.

My game may have crashed the last time I played, I'm not 100% sure but it often does...

Or I may have got stuck on 'Loading...' or 'Waiting for character to create...' and relogged previously.

Since the DayZ patch and the sudden burst of ArmA 2 patches that just happened, I haven't been able to get onto my usual server, I let it load for about 5 - 10 minutes before I just ctrl+alt+delete and end it to try again. Haven't been able to get on in a couple of days. The flickering image I get before the loading screen does look like the plains though :(

I really hope I don't spawn on the coast, I'll have to haul ass if I do.

Happens to me everytime I get stuck on the loading screen and have to open task manager to get out of it...not fair for legit players..I have resorted to waiting 20 minutes at the loading screen.. i have spawned at the coast about 5 times since yesterday..makes vehical hunting almost imposible

Interesting. This explains why I haven't experienced that bug. I was getting ready to install the newest beta patch for Arma II but then decided against it. In the announcment for patch 1.7.2.4 it was mentioned the then latest beta patch is required whereas in the notes for 1.7.2.5 there was no mention of updating the beta patch. Glad I read before I updated.

I updated to the latest Arma 2 beta patch and then the Day Z patch. I know a server owner quite well, he told me my home server was on the day z hotfix.

So I updated/patched everything, loaded up and there I was standing on cherno beach in a ghille. Absolutely shitting myself. Carried on North, headed up to Zelengorsk to check the loot/vehicle spawns. Then I logged out for lunch. Came back and I was in the same place. I respawned once on the coast but that was it.

I've heard the problem is if you're not on the latest Arma/Day z patch and you play on outdated servers.

Also, I highly doubt this has been implemented to stop ghosting/server hopping because Rocket hasn't mentioned it

I'm thinking that this is part of the "undocumented lulz" Rocket mentioned. Could be that this is in fact punishment for hopping/disconnecting. Because that's the only time this "bug" has happened to me. But there are too many variables (with a recent A2 beta patch, and a recent DZ hotfix) to be positive.

But if you think about it, it does curb server hopping. The two times this has happened to me both times I spawned on the coast @ Kamenka, which is probably the worst spawn in the game. If your goal was to go to an area with good loot, get said loot, then disconnect and join another server and do it again, spawning down @ Kamenka will discourage that real quick.

Did you join a different server almost immediately after disconnecting from the one that was stuck @ loading?

I agree that it doesn't qualify as hopping. If this is indeed a "feature" than like any freshly introduced feature it will need fine-tuning so as to distinguish between genuine server hopping and just leaving a server and joining another for reasons other than that. It may not be possible, given that it's probably a simple timer that activates if you leave one server and join another too quickly.

But of course this is all purely speculation on my part. It may in fact be a bug. But Rocket did mention that there were some "undocumented lulz" in the latest hotfix. Maybe he can clear this up.

had to end the process both times, got teleported both times

can guarantee 99% of the teleports are cause of this

Well that's fucking great. I HAVE to close the game 50/50 on servers I join, I get stuck on loading way to often now. Well whatever, at least I can get to cherno/elektro with a speed service while maintaining my gear and stats, just gotta make sure I know what servers I can safely login to.

I can confirm that teleporting is caused by killing the game while still connecting to a server. I guess I'll just stay on the coast and kill fresh spawns if that is what the game wants from me.
