Left Shift failure

I was playing DayZ today, and had just spawned on the beach with a new character. At first everything worked fine, and I traveled to some nearby structures. After wandering around the area for 20-30 minutes I pressed the shift key because I wanted to run faster (I had it toggled to walk). My character would not move any faster, even if I double tapped shift or held it, or even if I changed between standing, crouching, or crawling. I was stuck walking everywhere I went, unless I wanted to sprint by double tapping W. I even went into the control options and scrolled down to the walk/sprint command. I clicked on it, I then pressed shift, and this unassigned the key, and then I pressed shift again to reassign the key, and I then pressed OK. When I returned to the game, I still could not run. I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with the key because it works at any other time, it just would not toggle between running and walking for whatever reason. Does anyone know why this is or has maybe experienced this as well? If anyone knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate any help.

I have had this happen to me once or twice.

I was able to get out of it by double-tapping the left Shift, and double-tapping W.

Sometimes it helps in the process of reversing the polarity of that Shift key. (shift to sprint vs shift to walk).

Go into 3rd person and make sure your character is not leaning left or right, you can get stuck this way by double tapping Q or E. Also make sure you are not aiming down the scope, by right clicking. Even if you have no weapon in hand, your guy will still walk slowly and aim carefully if you right click.
