explain it to me

Recommended Posts

because i dont understand humanity. I know that it goes down by killing people and goes up by bandaging, giving blood. But what does it really do (what are the postivie/negative effects of good/bad humanity). I havent logged in since humanity has been restored, so i dont know where my guy stands. He's on day 25, hasnt killed anyone nor helped anyone, would that mean my humanity is zero? explain it to me like youd explain to a six year-old because i'm really dense

Humanity is not in the game anymore. Hasn't been for a long long time. (unless there was an update I missed?)

It only positively affects care-bears. But not really, it will cause more death on their end. They think now that they can see a "bandit" coming they are safer.

Which, in turn, means they can just DC more readily.

With realism and immersion aside, that alone should be the reason not to have it.

On that note, I will strive to get the lowest humanity possible (assuming that it still carries over from all your past lives - which it doesn't seem too, like they said it would)

So far as we know, the only thing that changes is your outfit around the head and face regions. You could get a scarf wrap or maybe a beret...I'm not sure. Even though I have had 3 murders on this life, I am wearing camouflage clothing, so I cannot see the changes. My humanity is already back to being positive just from running the woods and killing/gutting animals. I also ate and drank a few times... ^_^

If your humanity is in the minus range you will look like a bandit (your face is hidden beneath a scarf aka Towelhead) if your in the plus range eventually you'll get the hero skin. I don't know if there really is a hero skin because I have seen only the bandit skin. The purpose is to identifiy other players: bandit - you can't trust, hero - you can trust.

I haven't killed anyone and my humanity is at 2500. So I guess you just start with 2500.

DC more readily? It means we don't have to hesitate with our trigger finger.

Details on humanity have always been kind of vague. It's been a stat you couldn't see for a long time, also a stat that did nothing. It's supposed to exist to monitor a players actions, not in a bad way, just a record of what you have done since you spawned. Long ago there were special skins for people with low humanity, so they could be identified as player killers or bandits. This was removed to see how the game would behave without them. Now skins are back, and humanity means something again, your intent can be visually identified based on your actions. In .5 a "hero" skin was added for players with high humanity, probably to act as a visual identifier of trustworthiness.

I do not know exactly what humanity a new spawn starts with. I thought there was supposed to be a carry over effect from previous lives so it is never wiped completely, but I haven't been in .5 yet, so I'm not sure.

Some people think this is removing "realism" from the game and punishing behavior. Some think it is awesome and they now have a badge for their behavior good or bad.

What it comes down to is experimentation, and everyone is a rocket's labrat. It's what you signed up for.

Oh dear. Troll alt? Or just stupid ? Most likely both.

Im happy to be a labrat

And am pretty sure the game is better with identifiers , although realism or authenticity is the ultimate goal a game will always need some artificial indicators because we dont have the restraints or consequences that exist in real life.

Regarding the realism, at the end of the day it's still a game so I am really looking forward to that feature. And imo it isn't taking anything away from bandits who kill on sight. They can still do that. And Snipers can also do what they always did. But it is for sure going to help a little bit other players who just want to group up for a short time without joining a clan or pulling in their families and friends.
