What the hell just happened?

I joined a server and it made me re-create my character, even though I didn't die. Panicked a little, but then joined another server and my actual guy got loaded. Is this a bug or do some servers force you to re-create a character just for that server?

You joined a non-hive server meaning that the server you had to recreate your character on isn't connected to the hive. Hence why when you joined a hive server your character loaded up just fine. Read the Server name before you join just to make sure you don't get a non-hive server.

They are usually called Sanctuary servers.
