Losing items due to logging out too soon after acquiring them

Me and some buddies know that you do lose items if you log out too soon after you find them. I've been looking around to see what the time window is in which this happens, but with no luck. Does anyone happen to know, or maybe have tested this?

I think the main hive updates every 60 seconds AFAIK.

I'm told it's roughly thirty seconds between syncs with the hive, so you should probably give it a full minute. I myself just lost an FAL and about 5 mags I looted from a bandit to this mistake. Careless on my part, I was so excited about winning the fight I just looted everything and logged out to get a celebratory beer. Came back and had nothing to celebrate. Drank a regret beer to commemorate the event.

Been told 1 minute, tested for 5 and it still happened. I'd recommend killing something, like a zombie, or just waiting awhile before you log off.

Also, relog back on to the same server. If you don't, you have a chance to lose information. If a server restarts, DO NOT LOG ONTO A DIFFERENT ONE, you risk losing HOURS not just mere minutes.

I spend ~5 minutes hiding in a bush before logging out. That is ~5 minutes from the last time I either picked something up or moved something in/out of my backpack.

One other tidbit, don't eat/drink just before you logout. Save it for when you login. ;)

Thanks very much guys, I was thinking it was 30 seconds or something but just wasn't sure.

I've heard one minute, five minutes, ten minutes. As far as I can tell, it's rather random. I've tested it myself before, most recently when I looted an extra two pairs of NVG from a tent I meant to give to some medic buddies. Having experienced this bug before I waited well over fifteen minutes in a bush before I logged out. When I logged back in the next morning, all of the NVG and my extra GPS I had grabbed were gone, and my extra SD STANAG rounds that I had dumped into the tent were back in my pack.

So I'd say wait about ten minutes and then hope that it doesn't happen to you. As far as I can tell, there's no avoiding it. I've even lost weapons I picked up hours before, often I don't even get whatever I dropped back.
