rmnesbitt@gmail.com 23 Posted August 9, 2012 I see two ways this standalone can go, first is with ARMA 2 engine and the second is with ARMA 3 engine. Bohemia should be allowing Rocket full control over modifying the engine(s) to his liking for his game. The question is, which engine will he use. I know many people have said ARMA 3 engine, right? Think about this, why would Bohemia Interactive allow Rocket to release DayZ (built on ARMA 3 engine) before ARMA 3? To me this is like putting the cart (dayz) before the horse (arma 3). ARMA 3 isn't scheduled to be released until 2013 but I remember seeing somewhere that DayZ has a planned release for Christmas 2012 (might have been really old information). I dont know, what are your thoughts on it? Would Bohemia allow Rocket to release their engine before they do? Cheers
Tweakie 199 Posted August 9, 2012 No, the alpha will be released before ARMA 3.
umandez 139 Posted August 9, 2012 No, the alpha will be released before ARMA 3.This. Alpha of DayZ on Arma 3 engine. Pretty much just testing Arma 3 engine for BI lol.
vitdom 56 Posted August 9, 2012 Yep, Alpha DayZ the game would be a nice test of the engine. But I still think that DayZ the game will run on a heavily modified, optimized and stripped version of the engine.
Bludy 324 Posted August 9, 2012 but it will take to buy arma 3? it wil lremain a sort of dlc or mod? or standalone means i can also avoid arma 3?
whatup2003 67 Posted August 9, 2012 DayZ will be standalone. Arma 3 will have nothing to do with DayZ.
SystemiK 366 Posted August 9, 2012 Think about this, why would Bohemia Interactive allow Rocket to release DayZ (built on ARMA 3 engine) before ARMA 3?Because the DayZ mod has likely sold more copies of Arma 2 than all of Bohemia's other games COMBINED. DayZ has launched Bohemia from a niche developer, to a player on the big stage in only 4 months time and now with a standalone in the works they stand to easily double if not triple what they have already made from DayZ so far. A lot of DayZ players will also be buying Arma 3 on release who would have never even given it a second glance previously. Once the standalone has released I'd estimate that they will have generated 30 to 80 million dollars revenue thanks to DayZ. That is a lot of cheese.DayZ has become a cash cow of epic proportions for Bohemia, for them to give the DayZ standalone anything other than what is best for it would be to shoot themselves in the foot. Add to that what others have already mentioned about being able to test the Arma 3 engine on a large scale and they have very little reason not to open the source code to the DayZ project. It simply makes sense.
jackcrow 129 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Yep, Alpha DayZ the game would be a nice test of the engine. But I still think that DayZ the game will run on a heavily modified, optimized and stripped version of the engine.Im willing to bet you are 100% correct. Its actually the Virtuality 4 Engine which Arma3 will also run on so I believe what we see for DayZ will be a version tailored for DayZ and Arma3 will have a version tailored for it. Where right now we have a Virtuality 3 Engine tailored for Aram2 and then Rocket built a Mod for Arma2 that is DayZ. Edited August 9, 2012 by jackcrow
