This guy locking a server he OWNS and that NO ONE else pays for or has really any ties to does not affect anyone in a negative way in any way shape or form.

See, it can/does affect other people. He locks everything up, collects all the cool stuff (cause let's be serious only other players are a threat in this game, not the zombies), maybe even prepositions himself in a good location and server hops.

So, yah someone can be affected.

And? I still don't get it. Whats wrong with stockpiling gear? You don't have to be a server owner or a hopper to log into a nighttime veteran server (which usually have only one or two other players on) and harvest epic loot from crashsites, barracks, and so on. Also, how does one player having better gear negatively affect other players? Is it because he isn't sharing or something? Sure he might find a couple nice guns and some ammo while he plays by himself, but what makes his nice gun any more dangerous then your gun if hes not paying attention, or doesn't see you first? Gear is only as good as the player is... and if the player is not good enough to get gear on their own, chances are they wont be lasting too long with it.

Obviously the server operator has paid for the server and I suppose that does give that person a level of control but this is where it all becomes a little bit grey

When someone pays for the server, they do have to sign up to a form of 'code of conduct' and if I am not mistaken, one of those codes is do not lock your server. Obviously we do have a breach of contract here

Many people have mentioned that anyone who has a problem with it should find another server which is a common sense statement but the same could be said of a server operator. If you don't like the rules which govern what you do with your server, perhaps find another game which does give you full control.

To be honest..I am going to sit on the fence on this one as I can see the point of view of both sides

If you want to play on the public hive there are rules.These rules keep the game fun for everybody.

If he wants to play on a personal server he can generate his own hive. Otherwise his hoarding vehicles and rare items just makes the game less fun for everybody else on the entire public hives. Bad servers bring us all down.. nobody wants to face a constant stream of over geared server hoppers who have an invulnerable home base where they'll probably ban you if you join. This guy can probably use his super private camp + private chopper to attack any of our bases via server hopping.. and killing him won't stop him because he'd probably just reset his server and dupe his gear/vehicle back.

He's one step up from a scriptkiddy and he needs to be removed from the public hive.

If he wants to play on the public servers he's gonna have to play by the rules.

I think we can safely ignore porkchop1's comments.. Who among us -- except for script kiddies -- doesn't care for the quality of DayZ community?

Nobody wants to see this game devolve into hackers vs cheating server admins. Some people forget that the nice things they have (in this case, a mostly stable and decent quality DayZ experience) is on the back of many developers and hard working server admins. If you think helping these people fight the good fight is non of our business you don't belong in the community. period.

If you truly believe what you say, porkchip, you're nothing more than a liability to the rest of us. Spoiled kids with no sense of ethic lower the quality of the game for everybody. These people work hard to make the public hive a decent place.. and if you're not willing to work with them..

Lets put it this way,

if all of the good hard working Admins went and formed a better, private hive (instead of giving you all the benefits for free).. do you think you are you the kind of person they would want to invite? or the kind that they would want to black list?

The store owner, as well as the people in the store, are being affected in a negative way. Everyone knows that the rules are overly restrictive, but not allowing SA's to lock or password their servers is a good rule.

First of all, I would like to point out how sad, yet ironic, it is that you chose to so childishly and moronically insult me because of my opinion in such an immature and obviously unintelligent homophobic way. As if that was not enough failure on your part, you then rather ironically proceeded to call me a "little kid” which is funny because, after all, if there were anyone here who was acting like a “little kid” they would of course, no doubt, be you. Now that I’ve helped you realize how immature and obviously unintelligent you are, I would like to say that, well, you are very wrong. Yes, there are consequences to not obeying rules, but let’s please realize that DayZ is not even a game. It’s a mod FOR a game and therefore these overly restrictive rules that prevent people who PAY for their own servers from doing what they want to do are idiotic and rude to be honest. I mean, the rules are so restrictive that server admins can't even kick someone for cheating unless they have 1000% proof which means they have to stop what they are doing, check scripts, find camps, and do loads of other stupid things just to use powers they pay for in the first place. Also its important to note that server admins and owners do have plenty of control over their servers. They are just not allowed to use any of that power because its considered "admin abuse" and all of the 12 year olds like you run screaming to this forum when something as simple as an unannounced restart happens.

Anyway, I know this post has gotten a bit off topic, but when I see "little kids" like you spouting bullshit I tend to get annoyed.
